Torchwood Stars Captain Jack-- not the pirate one, the queer one. Okay, sorry, that's not clear enough, is it. Stars Captain Jack-- not the pirate one, the British one. Having kissed Doctor Who, Cap'n Jack figured he pwned that show and it was time to move on to his own. "Torchwood" is an anagram for "Doctor Who" and "Russell T. Davies" is an anagram for "SUPER AWESOME" so this is probably a lot of fun.
Prison Break One guy lands himself into jail to help another guy break out of jail. Sounds like Oz-lite, plus I can't imagine how they can stretch that premise out for too long. How many seasons before people start going "Oh just BREAK OUT already, or change the name of the damn show!"
Darkly Dreaming Dexter Based on a book where people constantly call each other by their first names, turning the dialogue into a minefield of annoying unlikeliness, this show centers on a forensics guy who moonlights as a serial killer. With a high concept premise straight out of a college freshman-level creative writing course, Dexter is either paying off its conceit with well-written stories and memorable characters, or else it's coasting on the nation's insatiable lust for CSI spinoffs and ripoffs.
Grey's Anatomy A doctor whose last name is Grey... wow, this show has already lost me. Anyway, over-emoting she-doctor Grey has a messy interpersonal life with some unshaven he-doctor. Sandra Oh is around, is fabulously attractive. Last season they all had to go to a hospital prom, straining the bounds of "ridiculous" and moving into "wtf" territory. Not so much a drama as a pop-song-montage delivery system.
The Office Agonizing comedy about a clueless and deceitful manager who thinks he's much, much smarter than he actually is, and the horrors that ensue as he fails to run an office full of semi-colorful characters. Meanwhile two officemates fall slowly, cutely in love. I would probably love this show if I didn't find it totally unwatchable because I already live in the US under Bush, so the lying ineptitude of David Brent and/or Michael Scott seems a little redundant.
