Two comments about books.

1. Did you know that S.E. Hinton isn't dead? I really thought that she was! I find this news surprisingly soothing-- she was Nathan's favorite author so it's sorta like learning that something I connected to him is still around. Anyway, I learned this yesterday whilst perusing the library. I found a Hinton book I hadn't read before, and found a publication date of 2004, which shocked me because again with the thinking she was dead. I checked the book out and it looks pretty good. I got a little bit too excited over that Amazon summary-- it said "genre-bending" and I read "gender-bending" but oh well :)

2. I saw that Pat Conroy has a new book out. I joked "Oh God, what war were they in this time?" But then Borders sent me an e-mail pimping the book which contained the following line: Leopold Bloom King, our narrator, is the son of an amiable, loving father who teaches science at the local high school. Let me repeat. An amiable, loving father. Seriously? In a PAT CONROY novel? My expectations are not totally wrong, though-- someone in the protagonist's past does commit suicide, and he's involved in the "60s counterculture" which means Vietnam again. But still, the thing about the father. This is like a John Irving novel in which no one has a bizarre fetish and there aren't any prostitutes.

......I have to stop posting now. My Dad just turned on MSNBC and some woman is claiming that the health care plan is going to turn us in to Russia and violate the Constitution, and now someone is trying to claim that someone is saying that sharing their views is unAmerican and I just...I am either going to scream or sob or slam my head against a wall because I cannot handle this shit.
