Urg. I dragged myself to a PTO meeting tonight. Unfortunately it meant that I also had to drag the boy, as the man had a meeting as well. My meetings tend to be a bit more child friendly than his, so we packed up some toys and we were off.
Never again. What a waste of an hour and a half. What was dealt with could have been handled in about 30 minutes, but the back and forth took forever. Things had to be motioned and seconded and carried and I don't know what else. Teachers were begging for money and were questioned about every little point on their budget (this included the teacher asking for $500 to replace her classroom carpet because of the damage done last weekend when a WILD CAT was trapped in her room), but things like the hospitality budget (for making the teachers feel appreciated) sailed through. I'm all for making the teachers feel appreciated (most of them, anyway), but a luncheon every month? Lanyards for their keys and ID cards ( I have one for my phone. It was a freebie promotional item and it works just fine), bottles of water for parent teacher meeting days?
A friend warned me that I would feel this way, but I went anyway, thinking it couldn't be that bad. It was a room filled with people who all "knew" that they were the most special person in the room.
Ahhhhhhh, what is it with this school?
The good news is that the boy has the next 5 days off. We are planning to have a great time.
