Pairing: Jack Barakat/Alex Gaskarth
Summary: Jack and Alex are a puzzle made of two pieces. However one of those pieces is lost and will probably never be found.
A/N: This chapter sucks but I'm really excited to publish the next chapter.
Masterpost Jack’s mother had no problem with Jack going out so late at night. He promised her he would back before 10 O’clock and for the second time that day made his way to the park. He treaded slowly, regretting his decision to come out. He hadn’t even replied to Alex’s text, to let him know he was coming but Jack knew that Alex would wait. For some reason he could just tell. The park looked so different in the pitch black. It had an eerie feel to it and wasn’t a glorious as Jack had seen it earlier on in the day. Jack nearly jumped out his skin as he heard a rattling in the trees above but realized it was only a bird flying from tree to tree. Jack instinctively made his way to where he had been sat before. He prayed that Alex wasn’t there because deep down he regretted coming back out tonight. However, Jack was somebody who was always courteous and wanted to hear Alex out. He walked quietly towards Alex, being careful not to startle the young boy as he looked quite happy where he was sat.
“Hi..” Jack said carefully going to stand beside the bench that Alex was sat on. Jack couldn’t look at him. He looked straight ahead, staring at the waterfall again.
“I didn’t think you would come.” Alex said, looking at the boy. He wished that Jack would look back at him, longing him to notice him.
“I didn’t want too.” Jack said sharply. He wanted to get this finished. He did not like this. He did not like being here with Alex - it made him feel uncomfortable. He wrapped his arm around himself, holding onto his arm.
“I understand that Jack. I hate being around myself as well.” Alex said. Jack was furious was Alex really looking for sympathy here. Pathetic was what ran through his mind.
“I don’t really know where to begin Jack. It’s been a really long year for me.” Jack walked forward to the waterfall and placed his hand in, the cool water soothing him.
“Do you know what Alex, I came here today, to talk to you because for once I thought I would get some explanation of what happened one year ago! Right now it doesn’t seem like I’m going to get that from you, so if you have nothing else to say than self pity then I’ll leave and we can continue on with our lives.” He flicked the water off his hand and shoved both of his hands in his pockets. When he turned back around, Alex was still sat there and Jack wanted to pull his eyes away. It was the first time in ages that Jack had properly looked at Alex. Looking down at him, he looked broken put yet confident at the same time. His face showed a courageous young boy who was happy with his life, but his body hung low.
nbsp; Alex saw the same in Jack. He noticed how his body was shaking and how he couldn’t stand to be near Alex. He noticed how tired he looked and how frail his body was. What they both didn’t realize was that they were both in the same situation. They were both broken and dysfunctional and the only people who could fix them was each other.
“I don’t know what to say Jack. I saw you in the park today and I needed to speak to you. I felt the need to come over and say hello. When you just walked away, I didn’t know what to do. It felt exactly the same as all those month ago when you walked away from me.”
“I WALKED AWAY FROM YOU! BULLSHIT ALEX. ABSOLOUTE BULLSHIT.” Jack had lost his temper now and was running his hands through his hair in absolute disgust.
“Jack I didn’t mean it -“ Alex began but Jack was too quick to cut him off.
“You know what Alex, as I walked down here I had this glimmer of hope that you had changed. But you haven’t and I never want to see you again. Don’t you dare come round my house next week when you and Cara have a fight. I can’t stand to be near you.” With that Jack turned on his heels and walked. He walked until he was out of sight before he ran. In the cold winter air his cheeks began to hurt and the tears streaming down his hair weren’t helping either.
nbsp; Jack had had enough of being pushed over all his life. This was it, this was the end. He had pushed Alex out completely and now he was completely done. Alex, the boy he loved the most was gone - out of his life now. He stormed into his house, ignoring his mother’s worried pleas to talk to her and slammed his bedroom door. He collapsed down on the bed and searched under the pillow to find his lighter. His hands met a cool metal object. He let out a sigh of relief and sat with his legs crossed holding his arm out. He was shaking. Not because he was cold but because he was scared, broken and confused. He flicked the switch and held it underneath his arm. The initial pain was shocking but soon enough he “relaxed” into it and everything slipped from his mind as he concentrated on that one area on his arm. After a good minute and a half, he pulled the lighter away and went to get a wet flannel from the bathroom. Upon entering the bathroom, he accidentally caught sight of himself in the mirror. He felt sick. His eyes were a vibrant red against his ghostly white skin and his lip was trembling. Jack Barakat was a mess.
nbsp; The other side of town, Alex Gaskarth wasn’t doing much better. As he entered his house he was greeted by his mother, shouting at him, demanding to know where he was. He replied with his usual answer of “Cara’s house.” before walking up there wooden staircase into his bedroom. Jack and Alex’s bedrooms were polar opposites. Alex hated mess and couldn’t stand for anything too be left in piles on the floor. His plain black sheets had been neatly folded backwards by his mother and Alex lost his mind at that point. He ripped his sheets off his bed and threw them on the floor. He let out an angry moan and punched the wall. Alex wanted Jack back. Alex needed Jack back. Losing Jack was his biggest mistake. Cara was his rebound. Cara was the person who helped Alex prove to everyone he wasn’t a part of the gay community. Alex was a coward and it had cost him the most important person in the world.
