Title: Maybe I Just Want to Breathe (Chapter Two)
Author: hihunter
Rating: PG-13 for now
Pairing: Jalex (Jack Barakat/Alex Gaskarth)
Summary: Jack is the most twisted definition of perfect, but everyone seems to think that’s exactly what he is. Perfect home, perfect parents, perfect grades. It’s a nightmare, being held with this high expectation that isn’t even true. So.. Why does he have to?
Disclaimer: I don't own anyone. Title and cut belong to Oasis
Author's Notes: Can’t sleep. Bad dreams. I need to get to sleep though, I’m worried about going to band now because it can’t be good to sleep as little as I do and then go out in Texas heat. Whatever, I’ll guess we’ll find out.

Jack rolled down his window as he pulled out of a gas station practically on the edge of Maryland. He plans on taking a picture of the goodbye sign when he does, posting it on his Facebook, and making the caption ‘I hope I never see you again.’

It was slightly exhilarating, the wind blowing through his hair. He felt like he was in a cliche music video with his music up loud and the wind giving him a reassuring gust that told him this was real and that town was behind him now.

He smiled wide when his favorite Blink song came up next on his mix CD he made for the road. It was a longing nostalgia that hit him when he listened to this song, but he couldn’t not love it.

‘Hey, mom, there's something in the backroom,
I hope it's not the creatures from above.
You used to read me stories
As if my dreams were boring;
We all know conspiracies are dumb.’

The reason the song meant so much and so little to him was because let’s face it, it was a silly, stupid song meant for fun, but also because it reminded him of things he didn’t have as a child.

Jack remembered one time vividly, when he was about five years old.

-

Jack jumped off his bed and rushed to his parents door. He had just had a nightmare, probably because he sneaked a peak of one of his parent’s movies.

He crawled into their room, knocking softly with tears going down his face and his teddy bear clutched in his knuckles.

His mom groaned from the noise, only turning on her other side and told him to leave and let them sleep.

“But I had a bad dream, mommy,” he whispered, walking closer to the bed and reaching out his hand, but her eyes were closed and she couldn’t see.

“I don’t care, Jack. Go back to bed.”

He ran back to his room, shutting the door and bravely shutting his closet to lock away the monster with horns hiding in there. He didn’t go back to sleep though, he stayed awake with his bear named Bear to keep him company as the sun rose.

-

Jack shook his head, looking over at the passenger seat and smiling at the teddy bear that had gotten through many of those nights. But he switched the song because some things are hard to handle sometimes.

“Hi, are you Jack?” a boy tall, but shorter then Jack, asked as he brought his backpack and first suitcase into the dorm he was assigned.

Jack smiled at him, liking the feel of this place already by just the walkway where five people had said ‘hi’ to him. “Yeah, you must be Evan.”

He nodded at him and went back to hanging up a Toy Story poster. “I hope you don’t mind, my girlfriend hated this thing,” he told Jack, looking over his shoulder at him.

“No problem, as long as you don’t mind a couple Blink posters I have,” Jack replied, putting his suitcase and backpack on the empty bottom bunk on the left side of the room.

“It’s not an issue with me, really. As long as you don’t eat my food or mind late night cram sessions, we’ll be good friends,” he said, finishing putting the up and clapping his hands together. “Alright, I’m going to go meet friends and I would invite you, but we don’t have room in the car we’re taking,” he told Jack, smiling apologetically.

“No problem, I want to unpack anyway,” Jack replied, unzipping his first suitcase. He planned on taking all the clothes out of this suitcase and putting it away before going to go get the other full of trinkets and things.

“Well, I’ll see you later!” Evan said, walking out and shutting the door behind him.

Jack started to take the things out of his suitcase and he wonders, for a brief second, if he should call his parents and let them know he had arrived okay. He shook it away when he realized they were probably having a party.

After he was settled in his room with his posters hung and suitcases laying under his bed, Jack decided to take a walk around campus. He had only seen it online so far, his parents wouldn’t allow him to take a road trip in the school year because they had an unrealistic fear that he would lose his scholarship if he missed a Monday.

He closed the door behind him, making sure to grab his key. That wouldn’t really be the right way to get off with Evan, making him open the door for him at night.

The campus itself was a short bus ride away from the student housing. Jack felt comfortable with it though, having taken the bus to Baltimore many times at home. It was nice too, a whole new atmosphere to be in. People weren’t necessarily nicer in Boston, but they sure weren’t any meaner.

Berklee had an Urban feel to it, the classrooms close knit and in the center of the city. The sidewalks were big and had benches on the side with green grass growing around them. It was a perfect college, Jack decided, because it fit him perfectly.

He was almost worried that he wouldn’t like it, because of how much of a whim he had to go on to get here, but this was the best thing for him right now and he knew it.

Jack decided to sit on one of the benches, pulling out a book he had picked up from his backpack. He had only just cracked it open when he felt a rather large gust of air pass him randomly. He looked up fora second and saw someone walking away about thirty feet from him. He looked so familiar, eerily so. All he could really see though was a light blue jacket and dark brown, choppy hair.
