Now I'm totally convinced that Charter is the worst cable company in the world! First, it took three attempts and several stern IT conversations from me to convince them that, yes indeed, they could hook up a cable modem for Mom since it uses the same signal that is obviously giving her cable TV. I'd heard horror stories about how dufus they are about broadband, but this beat all. That got hooked up during the Feast.
It occurred to me while we were gone that she might be able to use all the Comcast stuff once she had the connection. I was half right. She could get mail, but couldn't send it. So, last night I left work at 6 and went over to set up her Charter email. I did the obvious setup and it didn't work. Their website sucks for a variety of reasons and I started calling them for server setup info at 6:30 pm - 2 1/2 hours and 4 - yes, count 'em, kids, - 4 phone calls later, they finally figured out that she had somehow been attached to Appalachian's account (a business account, which uses a different server - duh!). On the upside, it only took 3 of the 4 phone calls to get all the account info right! :-(
They were having service interruptions last night, so I couldn't really test it, so I finally left just after 9 pm. Good news, I only cursed once and managed to make it through all the phone calls without yelling at anyone! Believe me, that's major progress.
Anyway, Mom sent me an email this morning and everything seems to be working. Her new email is:

She's supposed to be getting this out to everyone, but figured I'd help her out a bit.
