[good morning, johto! today you get a view of the entrance to route 30, in cherrygrove. Those in the area may find a teenager clad in uh. well. viking fur and a scarf rolling out some... contraption towards the pokemon infested grass. For those who are looking at this from the network, the feed shakes a bit before a wheel shows on screen, and then ( Read more... )

...Actually, that's pretty clever. In theory, at least.

Keywords: in theory.

Experimentally... not so much.

Well, it's okay if you don't get it on the first try. That's what experiments are for.

At this rate, I think it'll take lots and lots of experiments.

... And angry mobs, maybe.

Well, if you're going to test fire it, first it'd be best to point it away from the city. Second, are you doing anything to compensate for wind resistance?

Yeah, I guess I got a little excited.

[very excited.]

Er. Me and the wind are... constantly at odds with each other. [that'd be a no.]

Don't worry about it. There's all kinds of steps you could take to improve it. I could help, if you wanted--building things is sort of my job.

Yeah, it's in the prototype stages. It could probably use all the help it can get.

What kind of things do you build, anyway?

Well, I'm a mechanical engineer. Robotics, basic weaponry, that sort of thing. Working on a catapult should be no problem at all.

My name's Hal, by the way. Doctor Hal Emmerich.

... Sounds pretty fancy.

I'm Hiccup. Blacksmith's Apprentice. I... sharpen things, and make things like [referring to the catapult] this in my spare time. As you can see, sometimes that doesn't go so well. Nice to meet you, Hal.

I wouldn't call it too fancy, really.

Nice to meet you too. And don't worry too much about it, everybody makes mistakes now and then. Trial and error's an important part of this kind of thing.

You'd be surprised. Odds are it's fancier than anything back home.

[pause.]

And I think I've gotten pretty used to the mistakes part of it.
