For
picspammy's February challenge.
I decided to make a picspam of my 5 favorite American cities for my Top 5. I live in London and I've been in love with America for the longest amount of time. I compiled this list based on my visits there over the last couple of years. All photos were taken by me.
05. Chicago
I visited this city in June 2008 and - even though it was rainy - I loved it. I had seen a picture of The Bean before in an architecture book and thought it was interesting but I completely forgot it was in Chicago until I saw it. The entire city just appreciates art in all its forms and you can tell just how proud the people are of their city. Not to mention that the subway is like a breeze to navigate though. Chicago also had the prettiest little cafes and was so relaxed.
04. Philadelphia
I visited this city in August 2009 and I was super excited. I majored in American History and Literature so for me, this was a dream. I geeked out at seeing Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell (I licked the replica of it Barney/Ted style) and really enjoyed the history of the city. I got to take touristy tours too and the Convention Center was an amazing orgasmagorph of history for me.
03. New York
I've been to New York twice - the first time in January 08 and then in August 2009. It would be higher on the list if I hadn't have been ill BOTH times. But I still come back to it (mostly to see things I never got to the first two times). I LOVE Central Park. even though it was freezing cold in January, the park was so crisp and clear and I could spend all day there. We probably did because it took us forever to get out of the park. I love how there is so much in such a small area. And how so many people can be in Times Square. I live in London with a load of tourists but seriously. Times Square is like another dimension. There are so many people there. My favorite place was by far The Strand Bookstore. It sucks that I couldn't buy everything I wanted from there because I had to drag it back to London with me. One day...
02. Washington D.C.
As I said before, I'm an American History geek and so this city was amazing for me. I went in June 2008 and it was so hot, you couldn't walk further than four blocks without having to drink a litre of water. But I think it just made the city so much more beautiful seeing it in such amazing weather. The Mall was one of my favorite places - mostly because me and my friends tried to recreate the "Forrest/Jenny!" scene from Forrest Gump. A gem is definitely the International Spy Museum. Also check out the Postal Museum. You may laugh but I enjoyed it.
01. San Francisco
This is a bit biased because I lived in SF for a year between August 2007 and June 2008. I adore the heck out of the city. I returned in July 2009 and it was exactly like coming home. I can't describe the feeling of having a home away from home and I honestly could spend the rest of my life there. I love it - from the fog over the Golden Gate Bridge to the seals on Pier 39 - it's all so welcoming. I could go on about the city but I would really recommend people to visit and see for themselves because it's honestly one of the laidback, friendliest, funniest cities I've ever had the pleasure of visiting and I am proud to have lived there for even the shortest of times.
