For the October challenge of picspammy.

My family like to have a show we can watch together. Since most of the U.S. shows don't start airing the UK until January (and we're trying -but failing- to avoid The X Factor), one of the newest shows to catch our eye is Modern Family. Though my parents don't really like American sitcoms, they're quite fond of Modern Family. The only sad part is that we've only seen the first two episodes but we're eager for more.

I was going to spam the pilot but most of my favorite moments were based around Phil Dunphy, who is a cross between Michael Scott and Andy Bernard. If you like The Office, then you'll love this show so if you haven't checked it out, please do!

Phil: I'm the cool dad, that's my thang. I'm hip, I surf the web, I text. LOL: laugh out loud, OMG: oh my god, WTF: why the face.

Phil: Um, y'know, I know all the dances to High School Musical so...

Phil: [stares into the camera] It's like that. You just stare down at them and let the eyes do the work. Your mouth may be saying "yo, we cool" but your eyes will be saying "no, we not". "Nice to meet you." "No it's not." "It's all good." "No it isn't." "Oh, where are you from originally?" "I could defeat you if it came to a physical confrontation."

Phil: I want you to know I'm not enjoying this, but this is an important lesson that you're learning so soak it... keep it. [He raises the BB gun]
Luke: You're too close. It's gonna hurt.
Phil: It's supposed to hurt.
Luke: And why are you smiling?
Phil: I'm... what?

Phil: Oh forget it. I can't do this. The point is you're scared; I think you've learned your lesson. [Gun goes off]
Luke: OW! You hit my bone.
Phil: It was an accident!

Luke: I thought you were my friend.
Phil: I am your friend.
Haley: Dad! You have got to talk to mom. She is like completely freaking out and embarrassing me.
Phil: Well, Haley, you're mom isn't always as cool about things as [gun goes off again, hitting Haley's friend in the neck] What is with this thing? [Drops the gun and it goes off again, hitting Phil] OW!

Phil: [About what's the key to being a great dad] Well, be their buddy.
Claire: That's your answer?
Phil: ...and stay in school.
Claire: No.
Phil: ...and don't do drugs.
Claire: No.
Phil: Just give me the answer.
Claire: Oh god!

Phil: Sometimes a man has got to put his foot down and do what a man's gotta do. And if the old lady don't like it [Turns to see if Claire's behind him] Honey?! [pause] ...that's too damn bad.

Phil: Ten minutes after making a promise to me he leaves his bike unlocked. All I can hear is Claire's voice in my head. "He's not responsible! You never should have given him a bike." I know. I do a pretty good Claire.

Phil: So I decided to teach him a lesson and let him think his bike was stolen. And I know that sounds a little rough but sometimes it's the dad's job to be the tough guy.

Phil: Then crazy thing! I put it down for one minute and someone swiped it from me.
Bike guy: Maybe that was your dad teaching you a lesson.
Phil: Haha, zinger. So... any chance I could catch a break on this one.
Bike guy: I can throw in a bell...
Phil: Awesome!
Bike guy: ...for $5.
Phil: No, sir.
Bike guy: So you want to go for the insurance this time or is it still for suckers?
Phil: Got me again! Well played, m'lord. I will take some insurance, thank you.

Luke: I scratched it on my way into the driveway. I'm sorry.
Phil: So... it's not stolen?
Luke: No. Why?
Phil: That's good. Cos there are bad people out there who would steal a bike. Those are thieves. You sit there and think about the scratched part. That's not good either. Gotta fix that step. Don't scratch anything while I'm gone... unless it itches; that's different.
