Every day, I go to news sites, and I see people screaming to "kill the liberals" and blaming "libtards" and "socialists" (read: anyone to the left of FOX news) for any and every woe of this country - anything not knee-jerk agreeing with it all is "liberal bias" and proof of some jack-booted liberal conspiracy on the part of any news outlet but

I'm there with ya. It seems that compassion and mercy just aren't "profitable" anymore. Fear mongering and keeping the populous uneducated makes for a rather easily manipulated entity. So what's to be done? How can anyone have a true vote when taxpayer money can't compete with big corporations?

Tell you the truth I don't know. Perhaps it will be enough to have pattern recognition, and while we may not be able to avert the long night. We can survive it, to learn from it, and when we start rebuilding, not to make the same mistakes.

If you have time I would advocate checking out "Tales of the Afternow" by Sean Kennedy. There might be a wise chunk or two in there that you can find.
