"Three hundred bucks to babysit a kid inside of a video game. You could spare a few thousand for my trouble, asshole."

Alex picked up what he had dropped, looking at it skeptically. However, unlike Alex, Luthor looked like he knew his ballsack from a browser, so Alex assumed he would be safe. Probably safer than he would be in Gotham, anyway.

Making sure to move slowly so that he didn't have to do as much of the work, Alex started helping carry the rest of the equipment inside.

Tony chuckled at Alex's retort as he hefted a rather large hunk of machinery with several cables running out of it, managing to set it down carefully next to the heap of computer parts Lex had amassed. What they'd brought in was a large collection of state-of-the-art technology, individually developed. It would be easier to assemble this mish-mash of machinery with three pairs of hands; a nice change from what he was used to.

He ignored the portable rocket launcher. He was getting pretty good at ignoring the legality of whatever Lex pulled out of his ass.

Coming to stand next to a wayward console, he picked up a thick cord of wires and began to split them from each other, sorting each jack for easy organization. He suspected most of them connected to what looked like a giant car battery next to Lex's feet, which hooked into his own system network. Given the time, he was almost sure he could have this entire unit working ten times better than it had before.

Sadly, time was a luxury they didn't have much of.

With the three of them working together, the machine was assembled in surprisingly little time. Alex wasn't bad at taking orders when he felt like it, and Stark was always useful when it came to machinery. Not that Lex would ever tell them that.

Finally, he stepped back. The machine in front of them looked almost like flattened a bird's nest, with wires and cords winding and tangling around each other, the processors and computers looking like oddly-shaped eggs. But it would work.

"Okay," Lex said, rolling his neck to work out the kinks. "Bart should be arriving soon. I don't know where Superman is, and I don't really care. We're starting this once the kid gets here."

Bart zipped across Metropolis, giggling in giddy delight as he neared his destination. He had sneaked off when max was not looking, something he knew that he'd regret later, but it was worth it to him. Well, besides Mr. Lexington Creepy Luthor being there. That was a bit of a downer.

Bart skidded to a halt in front of the tallest building in Metropolis, LexCorp Industries Headquarters. He paid little attention to the smoking hole in the door.

"Hey, guys!" he greeted with a shout as he darted around the room, "When's this thin-"

Bart trailed off as he saw the complicated mess of wires and monitors atop the receptions desk.

"That's your setup?"

General Zod eyed the spluttering youth dispassionately from above, his less intelligent duplicates closing the circle around him in preparation of taking him away and destroying him.

He registered the faint yell of "BART!" that had come from the tall, red-haired one, who was hanging out the back of the vehicle in his silly play-armour, with his silly play-weapons, with no idea of what was going to happen next. Zod almost felt pity for them-- infants, and intellectual worms in comparison to his kind. But their sheer audacity had done away with any pity he might have felt. His upper lip twitched faintly with his disgust.

Uninterested, and fairly certain that he was not underestimating the enemy, Zod turned his attention back to his first, and most important captive.

Alex's feelings fell between angry and afraid. He held the gun between his thighs carefully, stroking the top of it like it was some kind of comforting item when in reality it was anything but. He didn't even know how to shoot a gun, but he wasn't sure what other kind of weapon he would be equipped to use. "I don't know what the hell you expect me to do here. I can't tell what's real and what isn't," he said agitatedly. He was the only one that was still in the cab, and he knew he looked like a huge pussy, but he didn't know what to do ( ... )

Clark turned to look at Lex, frowning just slightly. "Jimmy said this Zod knows my real name."

He bit his lower lip. "You were right, then. This thing's from Krypton. Jim, keep us updated on what's going on."

Before he stepped away from the mic, a voice came from the speakers.

"Kal-El, son of Jor-El," the voice drawled in Kryptonian. "I must say, I was prepared on being very disappointed by you... read all the bald human's obsessively compiled files, anyway, and I almost thought you were your father's son, through and through... but it seems you're not quite so dull after all. Ha, ha, quite the dark horse, aren't we? Sending three untrained, defenseless children into my territory? Now, that's the spirit. Good show, old boy. Us Kryptonians must stand together."
