Tony had arrived in his Mark II suit, as previous complications with the Mark III had left him no choice but to leave it in Jarvis' care. The systems were a little old, but still held up in the face of the long trip into the Arctic; an outdated version of Jarvis was still in the suit when he'd had it powered up, but it was no more than a glorified GPS system compared to how the AI was developing back home. And the freezing problem with this suit wasn't a big deal if he kept below the clouds ( ... )

"In that case, think you could cover Quintum? He'll need help up there, on his base, and he could do with someone who knows his way around technology."

"Give me a week, and I'll be all set." Tony responded. "Anything I should bring with me other than extra manpower? It'd be better if I could contact this Quintum guy myself and establish what we need before I make a trip that'll drain my power reserves."

"If I'm not mistaken, he's down at his Metropolis base for the next two days. Sandbagging, as it were. I'll put you in touch. Additionally, if you think you need it, I could lend you a squadron of robots. They're handy for repairs in case you run into trouble."

Power Girl shifted in her seat, eyeing the chair Tony Stark sat in. Different universe, she mused. Different seating arrangement.

Arriving at the Fortress this morning had been no particularly big deal to her- she spent half her time in the place, after all- but she made sure to delay her arrival until two or three other League members had shown up first. It was better, she figured, to file in with the others rather than act above them.

The news that he was not with Quintum came as a relief, but she couldn't help but be slightly irritated that Kal-El was airing his sex life and deviancies to the entire Justice League. When he finished his speech, she got to her feet self-consciously, more than aware of the general low opinion of her.

"There is a solution, Superman, and a rather simple one," she stated abruptly. "Why don't we simply kidnap Luthor before he can carry out his plan? You've done it before."

"It's a simple solution, but an illegal one. In the past, I have done that in the heat of the moment. While it is effective to an extent, I've regretted it every single time. And right now, the importance of working to support the system, instead of defying it, is a higher priority. Luthor'll only accuse us of being no better than the Legion of Doom, and he'll be right."

Power Girl blinked a few times.

"...Yes, and he will have not destroyed the moon. You know... maybe I'm missing something, but the moon does control the tides in this world, right? Where I come from, it's rather important."

"It's just as important here," said Superman, with a slight smile. "From a practical as well as a cultural point of view. Trust me, there are other solutions to this problem. We won't have to resort to illegal methods. And, needless to say, despite anything I've done in the past, I don't condone stepping beyond the boundaries of the law."

Bart zipped around the room, not daring to actually sit down or even stay in one place for more than a second until he had to. He was in the actual Fortress of Solitude. The freaking Fortress of freaking Solitude! Bart had only seen models of this place in the Superman Museum back in the thirtieth century and that could not compare to being in Mr. Superman's actual home ( ... )

"Hey there, Impulse! Good to hear from you. Say, we could do with someone keeping track of all the stations, filling in wherever help was needed. Think you could handle that?"

Power Girl chuckled softly at Impulse's blush. She leaned in slightly, giving him a warm smile.

"Well hi, Impulse. How do you like the Fortress?"

Perhaps not the most constructive of questions, but he plainly had been about to say something. Maybe some conversation would draw it out of the excitable youngster.

"Oh, it's awesome!" Bart semi-shouted gestured wildly, "I mean, it's like the museums back in the future didn't even get close!"

Steve listened carefully to Superman's introductory speech, eyes narrowed in concentration. His gaze steadily flicked between the cape-clad de facto leader of the Justice League and his old ally, Tony Stark. Urgent matters had forced him to leave Gotham not long after he'd arrived, and Steve was reluctant to admit that he was very much a stranger in the midst of these heroes and friends. When it was his turn to speak he carefully placed his shield against the table and stood, glancing around the room briefly.

"I just want to thank all of you for hospitality. Gotham has been in your very capable hands for a long time and it is an honor to join you in this endeavor."

"I'm just glad to have you with us today, Captain," Superman smiled. "Think you could join the Gotham team? They'll need some additional help, since I'm depriving them of Batman."

"Absolutely. It would be my pleasure," Steve replied congenially. "I'll be happy to help wherever I can. I won't leave Gotham until this is resolved."

Leland raised a hand, feeling like she was in elementary school again but unsure of the protocol at these sorts of meetings. At her side, Batman didn't make any motion to indicate she'd done something stupid, so she went ahead.

"Considering that most of the known members of the Legion are based in Gotham, will there be JLA members besides Batman and myself stationed there?"

"Well, Impulse," Leland said, with a nod to the boy. "And-" Leland noticed the glare being sent at her from across the table, and with a minimum amount of sarcasm, said, "-obviously, Huntress is also there. Anyone who's willing to help, really. Although, Gotham tends to get a little twitchy when people with superpowers show up, so if you have a civilian identity, it might be wise to stay undercover unless the situation really calls for some logos."

"In that case, Kara would come in handy." He glanced at his cousin. "We'll spread our superpeople evenly, if you have no objection to that.
