Okay so I haven't been here in a while, but I'd really appriciate some help here. It's application time, and I'm really struggling with mine right now. I have almost no idea what to use for the first, and the rest are just bad so far.
Suggestions would be much appriciated.
1. It has been said that "the ends always justify the means," implying that a positive result in a given situation should be achieved at any cost. Drawing upon your knowledge of historical and contemporary events, your analysis of any literary works you have read, and the experiences of your own life, please support or reject this statement.
1. uh… hmm…
2. Seaver College, a Christian institution dedicated to the highest standards of academic excellence, presents its students with a unique atmosphere in which students are encouraged to explore faith as well as scholarship. This is reflected in Pepperdine's affirmation statement, which states, "Truth has nothing to fear from investigation." Please respond to this statement in terms of your own spiritual commitment, describing the ways in which you might explore faith and investigate truth during your time at Pepperdine.
2. At Pepperdine, I hope to take many diverse courses, as well as different religious courses. I anticipate being able to learn about beliefs different from my own, so I can decide for myself what is true and what to believe. I presume that in learning what other religions stand for and are concerned with will affirm my faith and fortify my belief in Jesus Christ. Learning about other gods should reinforce my God.
I would have the opportunity to learn about different cultures abroad as well. I would have the opportunity to live among the people and learn about their customs and way of life first hand.
3. Many people apply to Pepperdine because of our unique location. Besides this valid reason to choose Pepperdine as your potential college, why are you applying?
3. There are many reasons I desire to go to Pepperdine University. Academically, Pepperdine would provide an incredible learning experience from highly respected professors. The small class sizes provide an easy environment in which to learn and grow. The student to teacher ratio allows for the development of a more personal relationship with the professors. This would enhance my learning experience and foster better communication, trust, and respect and my ability to get a quality education would be elevated to an exciting level.
The ability to go to this college, broaden my mind and knowledge, and simultaneously grow in my faith is ideal. Having my religion in common with my peers, as well as my professors would be the ultimate experience for me. Since Christianity is such a huge part of my life, having it in common with the people around me would make life and learning easier and more rewarding. I’d feel more confident in learning, being surrounded by God and such an inviting environment at Pepperdine.
4. Name and describe the creative work (book, film, work of art, etc.) that has most influenced you and explain its influence.
4. One book that has greatly influenced my life is C. S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters. After reading this, I began noticing how many ways I am tempted to fall from my walk with Christ every day. The book helped me realize that I am at war with the Devil, and as long as I keep moral Christian friends beside me, honorable people to look up to near me, and Christ in my heart, I can make it through anything.
The personal statement is an opportunity for us to get to know you beyond your transcript, test scores and resume. Please write a personal statement (300-500 words) that expresses your individuality and allows you to differentiate yourself from other applicants.
