You need to. The Golden Compass is honestly one of the best works of fiction I have read in years, imbedded in the sure-to-become-Classic series His Dark Materials. While lengthy, the scope of the project is admirable and worth taking the time to examine, and its philosophical implications more interesting than the engaging plot.
Plus the trailer looks fucking kick-ass ;)
