Flist, this is just a big tangled mess in my head, and it's late and I need to get up early tomorrow to go visit my sister, so I'm going to try and give this situation a quick sketch here with links and quotes.  I just found out about this about 24 hours ago, and it apparently caused a clusterfuck on twitter, so I might be missing some pieces.
