Damn you, Iowa winter

It's cold. Really cold. Like, I'm wearing a long shirt, jeans, and a shawl and I'm still freezing cold. What I really need right now are slippers and a Snuggie. Yes, I would actually wear that overpriced abomination of a sleeved fleece blanket if I had one ( Read more... )

A week and a bit before I return to Nebraska... yeah, that sounds about right. (Granted, I live in upstate New York, so I just get a bit less wind and a bit more snow. Isweartogod I need a postdoc in Pasadena or Tuscon...*)

* Then I'd be complaining about the heat all summer.

Last winter I was seriously looking into a post-doc in Miami. It helps that there is a lab there that is relevant to my interests, so I can claim it's not just for the weather. ;)

In the summer I get amnesia and decide going back to Minnesota isn't a bad idea.

Oh, same here. Or I decide that anywhere that regularly gets above ninety is not fit for human habitation -- the midwest kind of gets me coming and going there.

That sounds like a testable hypothesis to me.

I'd like seasons a lot better if they didn't hit such extremes. Do we really need -40 and 110 degrees in the same year? I think not.

We still haven't had snow that stuck here, and my fingers are crossed that we won't for a while, though I am fairly certain it's coming any day now as I keep hearing about surrounding areas getting their snow.

I've never seriously considered living somewhere warm, though. I hate the heat. I would much rather be freezing (which reminds me, I need to turn up the heat again. I turned it down last night because I was too warm) and pile on more and more clothes, legwarmers, and fuzzy sheepskin slippers than to be hot and not be able to take off any more clothes.

Ugh, there's nothing worse than being so hot you want to take your skin off. There's a blizzard warning outside and just thinking about being that hot is making me uncomfortable.

I really only consider it when I'm standing outside in double digit negatives waiting for the bus, or digging my car out for the third time, but I always come back to reality eventually. ;)

Yeah, here the weather turned cold at the start of December. The cold sometimes seems worse at the start of winter. It's making want to look for a job somewhere a bit warmer.

I don't do that well with heat. I've been in both Arizona and Florida in the summer, and it's not pleasant. (Yeah, Arizona is a "dry heat", but it is still hot. Places that have average highs over 100 F in the summer are too hot for me. And much of Florida is humid, which makes the heat that much worse.)

It does feel worse right now. This temperature in February I'll be walking around with my coat open thinking about getting ice cream.

I don't handle heat well either. As much as I don't like cold, I really can't tolerate heat. My preferred temperature range is between 40 and 75 degrees...so I need to move to the California coast, apparently.
