POTC and Disney's Incompitance + Lots About Will!

WARNING: Sparrow  fans should procesde w/ caution. I don't like him nor do I suport the ridiculous idea of Sparrabeth. There will be no pointless bashing BUT I felt it would only polite to warn you...

WARNING 2: Spoilers for POTC 3 may follow. Procede w/ caution if you wish to remain spoiler free.

...Now that we've settled that....

I have NO faith in Deisney doing POTC 3 the way it should be done. If Will was to become another Anakin I wouldn't have a prob w/ it. The thing is...DISNEY CAN'T HANDLE THIS THE RIGHT WAY...I truely fear that they mess this up...they just aren't qualified to do something w/ so much depth the right way. And as a Will fan this REALLY worries. I don't want them messing up a good character.

I'm gonnna quote some of the conversation I was having w/ a friend the other day on the subject and such  though I will not name said friend b/c I don't know if he/she wants this exposed to everyone else.

My friend:
Will becoming darker is possible to me if they make him see Elizabeth fall in love with Jack. It wouldn't be enough to make him an out-right villain, but still less of the hero that he is now given that he traveled to that island and almost died in order to get her out of jail, and she just leaves him for a selfish Pirate.

Jack being a full-on hero doesn't work either, but I could see him becoming a Han-esque scoundrel who has gone "respectable." I'd rather he stay the comedic, self-serving Pirate he's been for the past two movies, but I think it can work if they do it correctly.

I don't have much faith with Will's change, especially if it's as drastic as Dee made it sound, because as you said Disney's not really used to doing something that's popular with an older audience.

My response:
I agree. I think the thing is that [Disney] are not use to doing something that has to be realistic. If they decided to make a "pirate' movie then the biggest badest "pirate" has to be the main good guy at the end. No matter if it’s realistic or not. Seeing as how they are use to a younger, more naive, audience they aren't worried about making characters fully sympathetic, consistent, and realistic, which as you've said, won't be very popular with an older audience.

Another thing is that I can't help but compare Willie to Anakin Skywalker. They are really so alike! I never thought of it really until I read this: At his best, Will is clever, heroic and courageous. He can also be preoccupied and brooding.

Just replace Will with Anakin and Liz w/ Padme and it's still a perfect fit!
Though honestly I think that Will is Anakin with a bit of Obi-Wan mixed in...which makes it even more perfect! Even w/ my dislike for Obi-Wan he does have a couple of good qualities and those are exactly the qualities of Obi-Wan that Willie has!

Now on the whole Wil/Liz Liz/Prarrow stuff...

Me:
Oh, also, what do you think was going through Will's mind after he saw Liz kissing Sparrow? It doesn't seem like they had any time to speak of it and that look that Will gives Liz when they are talking about going after jack...I don't know, he just looked really, betrayed, would seemingly be the appropriate word, though I don't think Will has really been able to sort it out yet and probably hasn't even had a chance to go into denial. It seems like he's just totally confused. And yet, he still goes after Sparrow even though Jack hasn't exactly been a "great friend" so to say, which is one of those qualities that I admire in Will.

My Friend's Responce:
I think shock and as you said betrayal were what was going through Will's mind at the time. There was of course anger there as well, and it could have been enough to make him darker at least for the time. The fact that he was willing to still go after Jack shows a selflessness in Will which makes it hard for me to believe they're going to turn him into an anti-hero, but I suppose if it turns out he wants to save Jack for Elizabeth and Elizabeth ends up running to Jack's arms it would work as a reason for him to become darker as he would feel deeply betrayed by both Jack and Liz. I admittedly would be rooting for Will if that's how it plays out.

Hmmm...I'm tired right now and I really should go finish my math HW. I'll probably continue at a later date...
