Ok so I finally bit the bullet and watched the new Little Women movie. It was nice and I liked how much joy there was in it, in the relationships between the sisters. Can’t say I was like MAJORLY impressed, but eh. I remember I read the book as a kid/pre-teen for like school but I like…have practically no memory of it. Only some very vague stuff.
Jo = one of the most relatable characters ever, tbh. Probably my fave thing about this movie. Def toward the top of my fave female characters list.
I kept hearing how Amy was disliked unfairly and that it’s all shipping wars or whatever. And, IDK, maybe that’s true in relation to the book and like I didn’t hate her but she was def the least likeable to me out of the sisters. (And just in general, she put me off. IDK if it’s the actress here too or something.)
Meg is the sweetest though. And also very relateable in a lot of ways, if not the marriage and babies dream part (for me, personally).
So, i said that I “bit the bullet” because from everything I saw/read just by nature of being in fandom and all, I had a very strong feeling I’d really end up shipping Jo/Laurie and, knowing they don’t work out, like, I didn’t need that pain. The good news is, I didn’t end up shipping anything hard enough to be super attached/emotionally effected long-term. The bad news is that yup, def shipped Jo/Laurie most. I get that like thematically they weren’t meant to end up together (and the author didn’t even want Jo to get married) but I was still sad about it and almost cried during his proposal.
But I did think Jo/Fritz was nice? They seem like a relationship that has a lot of potential to be very healthy and stable. I just wish they got more development. But otherwise, if Jo had to marry, and it wasn’t going to be Laurie, this was a Good Choice. (And, eh, tbh, realistically, probably more stable as a marriage. Jo/Laurie do feel more like a Young Love type of thing.)
Absolutely no idea why Laurie/Amy is so popular, though. They had zero chemistry, imo, or any real romantic development. It felt very pair the spares. I guess there’s a logical argument for them (I’ve read it on here). But I still don’t see it.
