No, really. I know, I'm the mom. My kid's just an ensemble player, tho he does have a small speaking part. But omfg. This production is seriously so much better than anything else we've seen him in, I'm pimping it.
I thought earlier, today, that I should have sent something out, posted something. But meh, I've done so before, and no one's shown up. Which is fine, I don't expect people to be all over some friend's kid in a play. It's in a high school auditorium. The sound is a bit lossy - apparently that's the sound system, not their performance. They have an actual orchestra playing. Corny Collins is played by a freshman who has the actual understated/overstating behavior of a 1960s tv mc down pat. Edna is being played by a guy, who may well have seen the original movie cause he's got Divine's voice down. In the first act, I thought the "Momma, I'm a Big Girl Now" was gonna be my favorite song (a question my kid always asks) because wow, well choreographed, well sung, well acted. But the woman they've got playing Motormouth Maybelle... is a sophomore who can outsing most adult singers I know. I really said 'oh my fucking god she's awesome' out loud in public.
He's a senior. It's his last performance in high school. He wants to be an actor; there may well be more times I'll mention that he's in something. But this is awesome *now*.
