Yes, it's a flying visit from meeeeee!
I wrote a poem in English the other day while listening to a fellow classical singer and thought I'd post it here. Imagine it, if you will, sung in a jaunty Tom-Lehrer-like way (which would also take care of its metric, ahem, irregularities).
Your voice hurts my throat, dear
That’s the most painful thing I’ve ever heard sung
And with every note, dear
I feel like I’m swallowing my tongue
You’re American and sound like a Russian
With your deep and guttural growl
And you squeak on the high notes without so much as blushin’
You sing - and I want to howl
Your voice makes me weep, dear
And feel like I’m losing at least one lung
Your notes sit too deep, dear
I’d much rather you bleated like a sheep, dear
I wish I could just go to sleep, dear
But as from note to note you leap, dear
I feel like, yes I feel like … I’m swallowing my tongue!
