Night had begun to settle in on the city, casting shadows as the last rays of the sun were being chased away. She stood above the city, perched precariously out on the edge of the roof. Her long blonde hair was swept back into a low ponytail that blew around her like a rope in the wind. A black outfit covered her slim body, preparing her for the approaching darkness when she could once again stalk her prey. A belt was wrapped loosely around her waist in several loops; on her right hip rested a small blade sheathed in a dark casing and on her left side rested a gun in a holster. He hadn’t left his apartment in a couple of days now and she started to feel disappointed in what she could only consider to be his cowardice.
She closed her eyes and smiled, slowly extending her arms out to her sides as if she were about to take flight. A strong pair of hands fell onto her hips, grabbing her tightly. “Do you think that I wouldn’t be able to fly?” she asked. “Or are you afraid that you would be forced to pursue me from this height?” He made no attempt to answer her, his only response being the feel of his fingertips digging harder into her hip bone. “He calls you Kunzite does he not? Although I think we both know that is not who you really are. I look forward to finding out your secrets next. That is, after I kill him.”
He didn’t need to see her face to know that she was smiling. “My secrets, Mina? Perhaps I’ve grossly overestimated your abilities if you still do not know who I am.”
“Your name is Kai. 25 years old, a native to this city though your appearance would indicate otherwise as would the hint of an accent that appears when you speak quickly. It could in part be from your time spent in the states, but that is only what you allow people to believe. I think we both know the dark places that people like you and I travel to,” she turned her head to look at him over her shoulder, his face so close to her own that she could feel his warm breath against her cheek. The ledge she stood on was raised a few inches from the ground, evening out the difference in their heights and bringing them eye to eye. “When I said I wanted to know your secrets I simply meant whether or not you were a screamer. I do like when they beg me to finish.”
“I only allow one warning to each of his would be assassins. The next time I see you I will kill you,” he spoke firmly in her ear. Her hair brushed against his cheek as the wind changed direction, tickling his skin as it danced around him. “Then I think I will be the one to find out how you sound when you call out my name.”
“Many have tried, Love, and many have failed. I think tomorrow night I will be at his parents’ home waiting for them to return from the opera. Perhaps they can help persuade him to come out of hiding long enough for me and him to….talk.” Despite the tightness of his hands wound around her hips, she stepped off of the ledge and out of his grip, coming to stand next to him now several inches shorter. “And after that maybe you and I can have some fun.” Her eyes quickly grazed over his firm physique, taking in every detail of his image and committing it to memory. His suit was deceptive in its purpose to allow him to pass off as nothing more than a handsome businessman. “So I’m wondering if this bulge here is meant for me?” her hand reached out to caress him.
A thin smile broke out on his firm lips as he pressed her hand against his chest where she could feel the outline of the gun holstered underneath his jacket. “I have other things planned for you, my Venus. I never leave anyone disappointed.”
“Good,” she purred, pulling her fingers free from his grasp as she turned to walk away from him, disappearing out of his sight as she melted back into the shadows of the night.
