I went to the mountain, I drank from the fountain

Pursuant to my post yesterday about ridiculous amounts of fantasizing during the day (and night, whenever), I was buoyed up this morning on the subway when Proust basically validated my existence ( Read more... )

"oh hey we met this guy at the Mercury Lounge last night and now he'll sing us a song!"
Oh god, I hate that. Yes, Richard Shindell, I'm looking at you.

I don't know who Richard Shindell is, but neither did I know any of the random people who wandered on stage. Well, Jill Hennessey is familiar because she's an actress/model or whatever. But SRSLY.

I think it's wonderful that humans have the ability not just to create works of art from the imagination, but to generate pleasure and excitement and engagement literally out of nothing.

I mean, it would be one thing if you were failing to watch the gauges at the nuclear power plant because you were so absorbed in sweet thoughts of NUBBC!Sherlock. Another thing entirely if, for a while, you don't feel sadness or anxiety because you're etc.

Yes. What you said. We can make a lot out of a little. Except when we cannot, like my friend. And it's problematic.

Yes! I've had a lot of good reading lately. When I should be working on my Sherlock Secret Santa fic instead. Or you know, Yuletide.

Do you mean that there is not hope that I will one day walk around the corner and meet that elusive creature, that man who will actually have the balls to call more than two hours ahead of time to take me out on date and be charming and independent and sexy and head over heels for me? Can't that be both a goal and a fantasy?

Yes, of course. But you see the difference. A goal has to also be rooted in reality, whereas a fantasy can just be a feel-good scenario.

I hope your friend gets better. Also, that really sucks about your Indigo Girls experience. I saw them a couple summers ago, and they didn't do a good "stage" performance, but their talent carried the show. I can see how a performance show would not be good with them.

When the Indigo Girls sang and it wasn't a maudlin holiday song, it rocked. But the whole package was definitely not a huge hit - since the other artists were not billed, I don't think New Yorkers knew them or expected them there... Ah Well.

And that's kind of where I'm living -- in hope that around the corner is this amazing thing that would never actually happen, but is worth fantasizing about.

Mmm, I know what you mean.

I love the Indigo Girls, but the format of the concert you describe wouldn't thrill me either, to be frank.
