It's always seemed to me like the more pressing issue is which hemisphere it's located in; in the first movie, we see it's the depths of winter in Canada, but the height of summer at Xavier's (and indeed the rest of the US). It's my assumption that in the movie-verse, the United States is located somewhere in the southern hemisphere in order to explain this discepancy.

Dang, I shouldn't post before having breakfast. My brain is slow and sluggish. How on earth did I read a question about Kitt'y state of origin as a question as to the state in which the school is located?

You know, you're right. Because if Kitty misses the first snow at Xavier's, it must be considerably to the south of wherever she lives. And New York State's just not that far south--depending on where in the state you live, you're one of the people missing the snow when you go somewhere else.

Unless maybe Kitty's Canadian?
