[ Eventually - quite some time after his arrival, leaving the hospital, and finding his free apartment - Severus manages to turn on the device. He's removed his bazillion yards long robe and draped it over the foot of the bed in his new apartment, much like an odd, black throw blanket. So he appears to be overly dapper, or just old fashioned as ( Read more... )

[... ditto]

How fortunate then. I suppose being the captive of a doctor quite nicely explains waking in a hospital room. [ Mystery solved there. Check. ] Though I would much rather not spend my time as a lab rat. Another sentiment I am certain is echoed by others.

So in summary I should simply make myself presentable and go traverse the city for job openings? Given the other circumstances that isn't entirely unreasonable. There are no listings to access with this device? It seems capable of other functions ... [ So why not that one. Or that would just be to simple. Of course. Social experiment and all.

There is a noticeable pause before he speaks again, choosing his words more carefully than the others. ] And just what are these conditions? "Good behavior"? [ Oh the irony. Behave and regain what you can use to actually kill others even more swiftly than anything to be found in a city. ]

A fool in desperate need of money perhaps, and without a shred of an idea of what they face to gain the paltry sum. Any city has its own share of risks. I would be far more surprised if this one had none whatsoever. [ And this man will do just fine. Considering. ]

Constantly? How convenient ... yet suspicious. Though it will also give me an opportunity to see this city for myself.

[ He very nearly rolls his eyes. ] All part of the overall social experiment. How wonderful. [ In a seriously not wonderful way. ]

The card has three hundred dollars on it. Which, if you're careful, will last you a good, long while. [Personally, Karolina hasn't gotten a job yet. She's learned in her time of being a Runaways that stretching money out is truly a gift.] As far as I can tell, they've got jobs for every sort. The hospital and the library. Shops all over the place.

[ Oh Merlin, she looks like she could have been a student of his. But she's actually being helpful so he'll play nice. ]

Three hundred? What a generous sum from our captors. It will suffice far better than I had initially guessed then. [ Supremely confident he can solve his income issue before then? You bet. ]

Oh? I am not one to work in a hospital. Though perhaps a shop of a certain sort would do. Do you know if someone not native to the city can start their own business, Miss? If they gather the means to of course.

It is, actually. I've been here almost two months and I haven't found a job yet. [More like, she hasn't gone searching. But shhhh.] But I'm not starving, so that's something.

I think I may have heard something about that. People making their own business. I think there's some bars and a bookshop? And some other stuff.

[ He does wonder whether her lack of job is because of a lack of trying. It wouldn't surprise him. ] I am far more used to surviving on meager stores than my ... former colleagues. Should obtaining a job take far longer than planned.

Have you ... then that shall be added to my ever growing list of things to look into then. The bookshop is far more appealing than a ... bar. [ Forget that. He'd be more likely to hex half the clientele to just get them to shut it in one night. If he could. ]

[ Video. ]

[Damon raises a brow at the man, head tilting as he smirks. ]

Well, you're calm. For someone who's just been snatched up from your own world and thrown into this dump. Which, by the looks of your clothes, is completely different from what you're used to.

I bet someone already filled you in on the obvious, but you're on a completely new planet. It's ruled by one Queen Bitch [ clearly, a nickname he has given to the Head Doctor], who loves to play the nastiest games sometimes.

Oh. And if you had any special abilities, and all that jazz? They're gone now. [ A casual, uncaring shrug.]

Would you rather I assault your eardrums with earsplitting screams of horror? Provide you with free entertainment by flailing about like a complete dunderhead? [ Please. Not happening. ] It is far more technical than I am used to, yes. Overall I had no use for similar technology. That will obviously be changing.

I was informed on the city and its lovely ruler [ oh you better believe he agrees with the sentiment after what's happened to him ] Though ... a new planet entirely? Not only has my life been turned upside down it is now some parody of a science fiction novel?

[ His mouth thins a bit. ] So I noticed.

No, I'm all set on those, thanks though. Besides, that's not my idea of entertainment. [ Have a smug smirk. Heh. He likes you and your dry sense of humor. It's refreshing.]

[ A slight chuckle.] Yep, looks like it. Personally, I'm not a big fan of all that sci-fi crap either. But this place? Two moons, dude. Plus really weird "climate zones", complete with your resident rabid puppies.

Mmm. So you did have special abilities then?

[ A pause.] Need a drink? [ He didn't except the man to agree or anything; simply, it was almost a standard offer, coming from this vamp.]

How fortunate for both of us then.

[ His eyes glance briefly at the window. It had still been daytime when he went apartment hunting and he hadn't glanced up too often. ] I would far prefer to read about it ... if I was so compelled by an urge to.

"Rabid puppies"?

[ The offer amuses him. It's almost appropriate. Welcome to a new brand of hell. Have a drink. ] A nightcap does sound somewhat appealing. Given the circumstances.

I've heard that, as of next week, we're going to have newsletters with business listings. If you're lucky, maybe something that peaks your interest will be on it.

Oh? How convenient. Though as I wish to walk the city already I may come across something before then. But the thought is appreciated. Thank you, Miss.

[Susan hears an accent similar to her own (posh and snooty). While she is fairly certain this gentleman is not from her own world, his manner and way of speaking means that he possibly could.]

There is not much to say about this city aside that it is almost entirely self-contained. There are other areas on the planet available to visit, but this is the only inhabited area. The uninhabited areas can be quite dangerous, though at times the city itself seems to prove an even greater danger.

[ Posh, very English, and snarky stuck up checking right on in! ]

Entirely? And what if one wished to visit the other areas? What is the most common means of transportation?

Reply

deathslittlegrl February 7 2012, 20:42:44 UTC
Yes, entirely. It would seem that beyond the barrier surrounding the city and the different 'zones', the rest of the planet is completely uninhabitable.

As for visiting the others areas there is a transportation system in place. Along the edge of the city are different pads - each will take you to a specific zone outside of the city. I am not fully familiar with the magic behind such devices so I cannot say how they function.

[ Hmmmmm. ] "Pads"? I have not used anything precisely like what you have described. Are there no trains or other more traditional means within the city? [ In his walk he hadn't seen or heard anything like that but the city could be extremely massive for all he knows. ]

But ... you are familiar with magic? Of a sort?
