Serene's thoughts: Thanksgiving

The word 恩 (pronounced "En" in mandarin, and which translates into Thanksgiving, Gratitude) was the theme of Luke and Min Yen's wedding.

Most weddings are centered around the couple, in contrast, Luke and Min Yen chose to selflessly put God, their close ones, and guests before themselves. It was a night to remember, to give thanks, and to celebrate a new chapter of a couple who had been together for more than a decade.

The couple specially prepared dedications for each of the eleven songs in the first half of the evening. The dedications were made to their business partners, relatives and friends, and every heartwarming message was filled with little details and well wishes, which were read aloud before the band performed the song.

Evidently, the couple value their relationships with people around them, and do not forget the blessings they have been given in life.

The highlight of the evening was when Min Yen surprised her husband midway through the wedding by pulling him onstage. Then she announced to everyone that she had engaged professional help to write a song for Luke, to express her love for him, and to thank him for all that he had done for their relationship.

The song, aptly titled After All These Years (written by A Little Dream"), was played in the ballroom, accompanied by a video montage. While everyone had their eyes glued on the montage, I took a glimpse at the stage, hoping to catch a priceless moment of the couple as this song was played.

From Luke's expression, I could see that he was quite obviously moved beyond words. I could be imagining it, but I thought I saw him trying to hold back a tear or two.

Min Yen had contributed to the lyrics of the song during the songwriting process by providing the song writer with notes of their relationship, and the end product was a very moving ballad, one that describes the couple's journey in love, and how, throughout this entire journey, they were guided by trust, love and above all, God.

We had one guest coming up to read the lyrics as we performed the song live towards the end of the evening, and others who were touched by it and asked us more about the song.

Thank you, Luke and Min Yen for having A Little Dream as part of your special day. Thank you for sharing with us many wonderful things at your wedding. I was reminded that true love transcends time and distance, that apart from all the glitter and glam, a wedding too, can be about giving Thanks and not forgetting the many, many little, but precious things in life we are blessed with.
