Matthew's Thoughts: To Be With You
O the weather outside is frightful-ly HOT, but here inside it's delightful...Christmas may have passed but celebrations were still going strong in Fullerton last night, with "All I Want For Christmas Is You" (extra points for the pianist for attempting the crazy-fast triplets during the intro in that song!)
Congratulations to both Barry and Isabella on a wonderful evening with fantastic food (yes I got to eat too! - hint hint: well-fed musicians make good music.) Instead of engaging a singer to sing throughout the night, the songs were sung by a dozen of the bride's friends. Each of them performed about 2 to 3 songs, so there was a nice variety of songs and singers throughout the night.
The highlight of the night came when ALL of the friends of the bride (about 2 tables worth I reckon) gathered and did Mr Big's "To Be With You" as the final item. It's quite a sight to see about 15 people all huddled around 5 guitars and belting out "I'm the one who wants to be with you...deep inside I know you feel it too..." - something tells me that the influence of alcohol had nothing to do with it!
Another fun item was a surprise by Jo Tan who changed the lyrics of Rihanna's "Umbrella" and made it into a tribute to the couple (think: "Isabella, ella, ella, ella, eh eh eh....Barry's a lucky fella, fella, fella, fella, eh, eh, eh...") You should have seen the bride's face. She couldn't control her laughter as she went table to table for photo-taking.
The couple did something different and special that I have not come across before. Usually, it is the friends of the couple who would do a video-interview whereby they send their best wishes or talk about the couple. However, both Barry and Isabella did their own videos, filming themselves, talking about their courtship and each other - and they made not 1, but a series of 3 videos! (trilogy is SO IN RIGHT NOW!)
