Overworked and underpaid.

Flickerfest is ON people! I'm the current Intern there. So head down and buy some tickets to the best short films in Australia. Celebrities are also about. Current recent visitors are Joel Edgerton (who is a scruffy dude but some of you like that thing), and Damien Walsh Howling. Sometimes Matt Newton comes down and Alex Dimitriades. There's also tons of short filmmakers looking bright eyed and bushy tailed like Reto Caffi, David Michod, Anna McGrath etc, who are rising talents in the industry.

Though, The thing I've found with Aussie celebrities is that... up close, they're just people. It seems it's a lot harder to cultivate that aura of untouchability that International celebrities have. I reaaaaaaallly hope Hugh Jackman or David Wenham make their way down since they're Bondi locals.

COME DOWN TO BONDI BEACH and watch some films. I'll be the at the box office selling tixs.

In other news:

Temptations a FFVII comic by xiaa, R, Seph/Cloud/Zack. It's awesome and hilarious and Sephiroth is an ANGEL lolol. Zack's a Demon. And Cloud of course, is sandwiched.

MERLINNNNNN greatest baby fandom ever. I'm still a little overwhelmed to make recs, but I AM sure of one thing. This is BY FAR the best contender for my Comfort Fics List, you know, the fics you go back to when you're on the brink of suicide and HELLO, THERE IS MEANING IN LIFE ONCE MORE after you read it. It's that good and heart warming.

Three Tasks by syllic
Fandom: Merlin
Pairing: Merlin/OCs, Merlin/Arthur
Rated: PG-13
Summary: Arthur is the Royal Arbiter for Suitable Suitors' Disputes. He (and his trusty companion, the golden-dragon-tasselled hat) alone can determine who is fit to woo royal servants and other assorted courtiers in Uther's court.

Why: The idea of Arthur getting the power to settle RELATIONSHIP disputes like a demented courtship councellor in beautiful but ridiculous robes tickles my fancy. More so when the one being courted in question is Merlin who somehow gained himself three suitors without knowing. There is also something wonderfully fairytale-ridden about gaining a relationship through the accomplishment of *tasks*. But mostly ARTHUR. In charge of deciding who YOU DATE. Imagine it.

I'm a bit late to the party but: YULETIDE IS OUT!!!

Every year I try to resist, but once you've started on one fic in the archive, it becomes it gigantic gorgefest of the best fiction in fandoms you will never see stuff written in otherwise.

So it isn't hard to not only read this year's challenge fics, but previous years as well.

The War At Home by cgb
Fandom: Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum Series.
Rated: GEN
Summary: After an unfortunate accident, Stephanie finds herself owning controlling share in RangeMan.
Why: Evanovich's 'voice' for her characters is hard to write, very few people can come off witty, knowledgeable and more importantly, *likeable* writing in first person. I, for one am a reader who will backclick instinctively if the first few paragraphs can't capture me. Yet somehow, this author has managed to create a story which is both enjoyable and riveting all the way through, as well as created a plot which inscribes just as much, fun action and drama as the original novels.

My favourite this year:

To Swear at Troy by Oshun
Fandom: Mary Renault's Alexander series.
Rated: NC-17
Pairing: Alexander/Hephaestion
Summary: Alexander and Hephaistion make vows to one another at the tomb of Achilles and Patroclus.
Why: To this day, nothing gets me more emotional yet so bright and happy as stories about the greatest man alive and the man who loved him. Somehow, when people write through the rosy and sharp eyed gaze of Mary Renault, it feels like they're breathing love and life and humanity into history and into these personas that are so close to myth. I adore these two together and my rose-tinted view can't be denied.
