SGA/SG1:
Male Enhancement (The Soul and the Company Store Remix) by Lean (Also on wraithbait which has better formatting)
Pairing: Mckay/Sheppard
Why: In the grand tradition of SGA AUs, this one has John as an AI on the run from the SGC, who chooses Rodney Mckay's apartment as his hideout, under the cunning guise of being the 'companion' bot Rodney had ordered. Except Rodney had asked for blonde, busty and female. While it sounds like crack, this somehow managed to merge both crack and canon together with some brilliant revelations and heart warming moments. Mostly I loved it because it succeeded in every single instance where Chobits (the anime, also about humans falling in love with robots), failed. Possibly because John didn't sit around looking pretty only saying his own damn name. Also there is plot, instead of a series of random costume changes attempting to be plot. John is deeply likeable in this, so much so that the next time I see SGA I will *wonder* about him being a secret robot in disguise oh-wait...[insert spoiler for 4x10] You should read this, most of all, because of the bits that had me flail my hands around and go hee, and you cannot discover why unless you READ IT.
Another reason why SGA fandom is the belle of the ball: A list of AUs where Sheppard has slacker jobs as compiled by eleveninches. What confounds me, is that despite a personality that we've all obviously read as a downward spiral to living homeless on the streets, we still find John Sheppard sexy. In fact I wouldn't be surprised there is one of tragic!Homeless John, and I would inhale it like crack and still love it.

It's been ages since I've made a Mal rec, and this is because I read everything she does, and so does everyone else, but sometimes, a fic really deserves a proper rec.

Warning: Spoilers for Water 7 and Enies Lobby, alternate timeline fic after that.
Tantalising Quote: "You realize you'll be eating a portion of anything you set before Lord Stone, and nothing else?"
"Oh good, I like my cooking." Sanji had already scouted out Stone's security arrangements beforehand, so he wasn't surprised.
"You do know what happened to Lord Stone's previous cook, right?"
"It'd have been hard to miss," Sanji said dryly. "I was in the dining hall and had to duck as he hurtled over my head."
Why: I loved this fic, not only because it display the usual astounding Mal-quality of writing, but because it was one of those rare gems in any fandom, the riveting gen fic. I loved the set up of Sanji infiltrating into an enemy pirate den, and slowly finding out the mystery of the who and whys. It also does one of toughest things in a piece of short fiction, set up a storyline which can both break your heart and somehow weave it together again, a little battered but happier. What makes this fic enjoyable is the desperate and absolute faith you clutch at till the end that everything will be okay.
I've been reccing mostly SGA fics for a while... OH GOD Other fandoms! Stop sucking! Where is the fic? Must I really only have that slight long-a-ways light at the end of my tunnel that is Yuletide?
I'm looking at YOU Smallville fandom! Where are the Clex fics to take me away from the horror that is season 6?! There's so much Lana in it it makes me want to die. Also Naruto fandom! Has the banal manga events killed all creativity for long fic? Or is everyone waiting until Sasuke and Itachi have their Big Damn Fight so they don't get jossed? And Gundam Wing fen! Sometimes I feel like I've read every single longish fanfic there is in this fandom. Except Garou (because it's WIP and will never be finished), Smells like Teen Spirit (I've slacked off) and that crazy GSeed crossover (which I want to read, but Seed kind of blows). But that's it. There has to be more GW fic out there. There has to be.
