Edward and I discovered today that dried mangoes ("Just Mangoes" from Trader Joe's) are a lovely self-feeding snack. He can just gnaw and suck on them until they turn into mangoey slime that is then slurped up. Unfortunately, once they've been sucked on for a bit they end up sliming everything they touch. Faces. Hands. Carpets. I left him to his own devices wandering around with his mango, until I saw him playing with a framed photograph. As I bent down to retrieve it from him I saw that his hands looked like he was turning into a werewolf -- they were thoroughly coated with a layer of fur. His face was the same -- it seems that mango slime is a dandy adhesive with an affinity for pet fur (that hasn't been vacuumed up for two days.) :O
So. Amendment. Dried mangoes are a lovely snack to eat in the high chair, with supervision and prompt cleanup. LOL.
Edward's latest trick is standing up without pulling up. He just gets his feet under him, and stands. He doesn't do it often mind you, but it still surprises me, because I thought that usually came after proficient walking? And he's definitely not walking. A step here or there but that's it. And I'm certainly not rushing him! :D
A couple of days ago in the grocery store he took it into his head to babble up and down all the aisles. "Ya-ya-ya-ba-ya-YA-ya!" he yelled at the top of his lungs. He aimed special strings of conversation and screeches at other shoppers. When we got to the cash register the cashier asked, "Was that you making all that noise?"
Last night we went to a baby shower. I was pretty impressed with him. He did his shy routine/flirting at first, but eventually let several other people hold him without fuss. He crawled around among all the feet, and when everyone was sitting in a circle playing silly shower games, he loved crawling through the middle of the circle squealing at everyone and being the center of attention.
