I don't know anything about Golf-

However, Tiger Woods is just popular because he came out of nowhere, became sponsered by Nike and he is black, and an amazing golfer. Seeing that Golf is a traditionally very exclusive, expensive and primarily anglo-saxon sport, people made more of a big deal of him than they would of if he was white. The fact that he was a great golfer and all the stories how his family wasn't accepted into certain country clubs made him even more popular- he rose above the expections. So obviously if he isnt placing 1st in every golf tournament, it is because he was made into such a big deal to begin with, that people feel like they need to point out the fact that he is in a "slump" even though he is still doing extremely well.

At least that is my 2 cents on golf and tiger woods, take it or leave it.... I probably don't know enough about him to be writing about him but here it is.
