Okay, Criminal Minds fans..

...I need your help!

I've been pretty much mainlining back to back episodes and have now watched my way through Seasons 1 and 2 and I have questions....

Naturally, as a die-hard whumper I was desperate to see episodes 14 and 15 of Season 2 and indeed they did not disappoint. But they left me with questions regarding canon vs fanon.

You see, as part of my new-found addiction to Criminal Minds, I've been reading a lot of fanfic and it seems to be an extremely commonly recurring theme/trope in fanfic that other members of the team know about Reid's Dilaudid addiction, even down to him refusing narcotics if injured/hospitalised and the team knowing why, or even telling medical staff on his behalf not to give him any.

So my question is, is this knowledge of Reid's addiction canon or just fanon? Cos from what I've actually seen in the show:

1. None of the team actually saw Tobias give him Dilaudid. Do they even know he was given drugs?

2. We never actually saw Reid use Dilaudid in the following episodes (we saw him thinking about it but never saw him actually do it - from what I've actually seen on screen it could be interpreted that he never actually took any and his OOC behaviour was him coming to terms with the trauma, the temptation to take Dilaudid and the question of whether to stay with the BAU... from what I've seen in the behind the scenes stuff on the DVDs, the writers, and Matthew himself, clearly state that Reid has a drug problem but it's not actually *shown* on screen).

3. No-one on the team has ever referenced drug use while talking to or about Reid and his issues. All we've seen is Reid admit to Gideon that he's "struggling" (and he phrased that as being more about whether the BAU is the right place for him to be) and then promising never to miss another plane. This could be taken as a commitment to deal with his drug use or just a decision that he does want to stay with the BAU.

There were a couple of significant looks passed by Hotch and Gideon (and a slightly nervous glance around from Reid) when Reid referenced fire being a drug and the unsub being addicted and not being able to quit without help in Ashes and Dust but is that because Hotch/Gideon know something or just suspect something?

So, do the team - or anyone on it, Hotch, Gideon etc? - actually know that Reid a) was drugged by Tobias and b) is using drugs? Or is that just fans taking the idea and running with the awesome whump/angst potential? Or is this all made clear in Season 3, which I'm about to start watching? :D
