System insights days 7-13

More of the same.

================================
7: Friday, 30 Jan

Insights:
Need to clean desk before term. Tomorrow is chores day.
I can socialize effectively in a group that is drinking alcohol, without myself drinking alcohol.
It is OK to ask other people to cover Bookex and go do something else, even if it's a bit of an imposition, because it is a hell of an imposition for me.
I wonder if I'm writing insights differently / less candidly now that I'm posting them publicly? Maybe I should only post some of them or something.
Being a loner / procrastinating in the APO office is not better than being a loner / procrastinating in my room. In fact it's worse because there's so much candy in the office.

8: Saturday, 31 January

Insights:
I tend to load a bunch of tasks onto the end of the day. Move 'Exercise' to front of dayslip?
Also, I've come to see daylogging as onerous. Perhaps allow 'short form' logging where I skip the task listing, because it's on the dayslip already so what the hell.
Need to really think ahead when scheduling tasks -- consider likely hosage realistically. Better to underschedule myself.

9: Sunday, 1 February

Insights:
Being social online is good too. Seeing Raffi's face on Skype was... excellent, for lack of better word.
I am competent to manage bookex. Sure I have made some mistakes, but it is not true that everything will die forever because I really should have talked to the CAC earlier or something. Though I really ought to be doing a better job teaching Cat what to do.
If there's a lot of work to be done and it doesn't require some specific knowledge, get lots of brothers to do it. After chapter meeting is a good time to do this.
Should not delay showers & laundry as much as I do.

10: Monday, 2 Feb
[am writing this late on Tues night]

Insights:
Do a short log if tired -- better than putting off till late next day, because will forget everything.

================================
11: Tuesday, 3 Feb

Insights:
Be less neurotic about squares. Be less afraid of [name redacted]. Carefully consider emails to bookex customers, discuss with other people who have totally valid opinions. Going to Squares is good, as is getting partners well beforehand if convenient.
People do actually enjoy interacting with me, no really, and are generally sympathetic although I should be careful about people's emotional TMI filters in a casual social setting (context!!!). They are sad when I don't sign up for East Hill (and the latter, not just because one is supposed to be sad when someone doesn't come to East Hill).

12: Wednesday, 4 Feb

Insights:
It's okay that I'm in a lit class that has a lot of writing. Not scary. It'll be good for me, hopefully fun as well, and I am allowed to not get an A in it.
Should stop hating on that one guy who asked all the questions in 7.03 and seems geared up to do so in 7.05... and is a frosh with sophomore standing. If nothing else, he's good practice for not feeling inferior to slightly-more-advanced-in-classes people, and for not feeling superior to people who ask questions in lecture.
Need to work on developing actual social graces, not just hanging out more often. These are important even when just hanging out -- *especially* when just hanging out, for me, since I seem to have little trouble interacting with most adults/faculty.
It is in fact true that doing one exercise makes me want to do another. All I have to do is convince myself to do some jumping jacks or something, and I'll do more things afterwards just because.
I have tooling to do now. Need to change my default "bored, what to do now" state from "read the internet/socialize" to "study".
Checking things off is good. It makes me happy. I will keep telling myself this until it works.

13: Thursday, 5 Feb 09

Insights:
Must remember to pay attention to other people's comfort levels about various conversation topics. This does not mean "always avoid talking about X and Y topics", it means pay attention and update the acknowledged boundary of the conversation according to latest observation. In short, be more considerate.
Do not waste time on the internets. Tool moar!
I should probably use fewer swear words, but this is low priority.
