I saw that same Santa idea on Facebook (only giving small gifts from Santa, telling your kids the big ones are from you), and I thought it was wonderful. Sure, in a way it takes away some of the magic of Christmas for kids, but these days where there's so much disparity between what parents can afford, what kids can receive, I thought it was a really good idea.
I agree. I appreciated gifts more, in a way, because I knew someone bought me a gift because they genuinely were thinking of me or really thought I'd like that gift.. and not because a date on the calendar told them they had to. it just feels so forced, sometimes.
This was the year I decided not to go crazy on gifts. I had committed to a handful of presents for B, H, and Sephie, and already told my friends and extended family we were not doing gifts for anyone else this year. I did buy some gifts for a few children off the Angel Tree, and a single mom friend of mine. I was actually really proud of myself for shucking off the responsibility of feeling the pressure to compete with the three households spoiling H
