restless sleep

This week has been terrible. Either I'm getting only six hours of sleep followed by a grueling and exhausting day supervising students and standing on my feet and then cooking dinner and playing with my kid; or I say fuck it and go to bed early, only to have interrupted sleep.

Last night I put Erika to bed at 9 PM and I was so exhausted, I feel asleep in her room while waiting for her to sleep. Brian came home at 10:30 PM and woke me up, so I lumbered groggily to my bed to sleep. Brian came to bed at 12 midnight and woke me while he got ready to sleep. Then his alarm clock unexpectedly goes off at 4:00 AM (why!?!). And then Erika stumbles in at 5:00 AM because she wet her bed, so I bring her to pee (more came out in the toilet; then I went to check her bed and take the sheets off. Only a little bit had leaked out before she woke, so she's improving), changed her clothes, threw her into our bed, only to have my alarm go off at 6:00 AM. I look over and the whole family is asleep in the bed, but ARGH! I'm exhausted!

And this summary is unfortunately the norm, and not the exception, to what appears to be my sleep pattern. I thought once our kid wasn't an infant, we'd be able to sleep through the night? Isn't that what parents of toddlers and older children promised us!?!

sleep, rant
