Erika started pointing at things in the sky (airplanes, clouds, but mostly birds fascinated her) for about a month now, but lately she's taken a real joy at pointing at everything and smiling when we name it. So it's this parent-child behavior of *point* tree! *point* fish! *point* ball! *point* dog! And she gets a kick out of this.
Her vocalization has also changed. Last week, it was single sound repetitions, like "ma.ma.ma.", "fffff", or "aaaaaaeeeeeoo".
But now it's more like a conversation and goes like: "aeeeo? ba ba theo! ma ya ahh ya ya whoo. boo ga faa?" And we wonder what she is saying, because she raises her eyebrows, waves her hands, and gestures dramatically while this is all going on.
She stands holding on to furniture. And loves feeding herself, which has also turned into a refusal to have us spoon-feed her! All my efforts to feed her foods she used to love like pear sauce and pureed squash have been flung angrily over her shoulder, spattering the food all over the floor, her hair, and my face. So now it's finger foods: soaked Cheerios, barley teething biscuits, rice biscuits, cheese cubes, hard-boiled egg yolks, and shredded chicken and turkey. Chicken, by far, is her favorite food. While she eats chicken, she mummurs "mmmmmMmMMmMmM" and satisfactorily smacks her lips.
