a new girl started in the office. we have a lot in common so it should be pretty great. she is a photographer who has traveled to 17 different countries and once shaved her head. haha, i am none of those things so maybe those two sentences shouldn't have gone together- but our personalities and interests are the same. is it bad to be a bit disappointed that she is married? well i am- you can never quite develop the same sort of friendship with someone who is, but her husband seems pretty great too so i look forward to meeting him.
i also ordered a new book from dwr called 'how to see' by george nelson. he is one of my absolute favorite furniture designers and practically the creator of beautiful modern design in my book. (k, maybe a tie with eames but anyway..) the book is a reprint of the 1977 edition and covers every aspect of design and how we perceive it. what is art and what isn't? i have only had a few moments to look through it but i am already inspired. when i saw the description of the book i knew i had to get it because it covers my entire design philosophy: that anything can have potential if seen through the right eyes. i love design. ive just been pouring over old illustrations of my favorite designers lately and getting lost in their world; it is my best pastime.
i figured out the name of my future business: potentiality. i like the word, i like what it means, and i like the way it looks written in the fonts i like. someday.
i have broken my toe again. yes, that toe. the one i sort of need to keep me from walking like an idiot. its almost amusing because my boss and i were joking about how i would get hurt before my medical insurance kicks in. (dec. 1) let me tell you- not so funny when i was laying at the bottom of my stairs. at least i am pretty much an expert on crutches. i am also incredibly stubborn and i hate asking for help so this has lead to a few interesting situations at home. do you know how difficult it is to haul your laundry to the laundromat and home again when your arms are taken? i dont recommend it. also, if you would have come to my apartment last night you would have seen my assembling my (beautiful) couch on my own. parts were heavy, there were a lot of falls, but now i have my gorgeous grey clean lined mid century sofa and im in love with it. this gives me a place to rest lumpy foot as well.
go to findyourspot.com. i dont know why i put that here in the empty void of nothingness but its a pretty great site. a very comprehensive quiz to find your best places to live in the US. my first two i knew- portland, oregon was my #1 and seattle was #2. however little rock arkansas came in for my #3. really? i guess i don't know much about the city but it was still interesting to see there. anyway, there is a long list and its fun. so go. timewaster.
mm, thats all i guess.
