Oct 21, 2008 18:11

Okay, so who wants to murder me? I seriously need to be murdered.
I haven't started a single one of my Kevjo oneshots and they're due in...less than a week.
Yell at me people or there will be no more Wyckoff...well there will be. I'll just be in trouble with what is one of the best communities in the world.

>.> I fail at life.

This chapter goes to Keni, the girl who's soul I will eat if she doesn't read this.
This chapter also goes to Elizabeth who is my bitch and now owns my soul for the amazing oneshot she wrote for me.

And on to the story

Kevin smiled softly as he took Joe’s hand. “Hey there, I’m Kevin.” Joe smiled in return as he shook Kevin’s hand. “It’s nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you too. Here, let me show you around.” Kevin smiled as he stared into Joe’s eyes, feeling his heart start pounding again. The eyesex was interrupted by Taylor ‘accidentally’ nudging Kevin in the shoulder.

“Hello Taylor,” Kevin said as he watched his best friend take a second to glare at Joe. “What’s going on?”

Taylor sighed as she turned to Kevin. “I’m stuck with the most amazingly annoying girl ever. She’s just going on and on about how much she hates this job and she didn’t want to be signed up for it in the first place, but she’s actually kinda cool. We have a lot in common, and if she would stop talking about the stupid student guide project we’d probably become good friends.” Kevin couldn’t help but laugh at Taylor’s pathetic excuse.

“You’re such a nice person Tay,” he said with a smile. “Now go back to your guide before she thinks you hate her.” Taylor shrugged and started to walk away but she stopped and walked back towards Kevin. “What is it Taylor?” he asked slightly angrily. She motioned for him to come over to her and he did after politely excusing himself from Joe’s presence.

Taylor brushed her hair back and looked at Joe before turning her attention to Kevin. “Kevvie, be careful. I know he’s your student guide and everything, but if Mitchell sees you two hanging out in the hallway there are going to be some problems between him and you, and I don’t want that happening. You’re my best friend.” She looked back towards Joe again and sighed deeply before hugging Kevin and walking away.

Kevin walked back over to Joe with an apologetic look. “Sorry about that. She’s just-“

“In a bad mood? Or is she scared that someone else will snatch you up? Most girlfriends are usually like that,” Joe said with a smile, but Kevin could tell that there was some sadness behind it. “Mandy’s usually like that with me. Always worried that some other cute girl is going to steal me away when she’s not looking.”

“Wait no,” Kevin replied. “Taylor’s not my girlfriend. True, she is a girl and she is my friend but we’re not dating.” Joe nodded in understanding. “Okay, so can I ask you a question?” Kevin said. Joe nodded again and Kevin continued. “Taylor’s step-brother is Mitchell Musso.” Joe instantly paled as he looked away from Kevin.”No, I don’t mean that I hate you or anything like that because I’m friends with him. I just want to know why you two hate each other now.”

Joe looked back up at Kevin with another sad smile. “The thing is Kevin, I don’t hate him. I don’t know why he hates me though. I mean, we were best friends one day and then the next one he came up to me and punched me across the face. The rumored reason is that I stole his fountain pen, but that can’t be why. He wouldn’t constantly torture me like this if it was just that stupid reason.”

Kevin looked at the younger boy and sighed. This was insane. There had to be some way to get to the bottom of this and figure out how to keep him from being bullied by his best friend’s brother. Kevin didn’t know why he was caring so much about this boy he had just met, but he felt kind of warm inside when he thought about saving Joe from Mitchell’s harsh words and violent hits. He knew those well enough to know that Joe didn’t deserve them as well.

“Well,” Joe said as he looked towards the hallway. “We should get started on this tour thing so you can get out of here. I’m sure you don’t want to be here anyway.” Kevin was about to agree with Joe but then he realized not everything about this school was bad. At least there was Taylor and possibly Joe to keep him company. Kevin nodded in agreement to the tour and the two set off through the halls.

“Okay, I lied,” Kevin said with a huge yawn. “Now that was boring as all hell.” Joe laughed as they headed towards the entrance to leave the school building behind. “Why did we have to do that stupid thing?”

“Because the school board thought it’d be a ‘nice introduction into the society of a new school.’ Personally I think it was a stupid thing to do and I wouldn’t have bothered if my dad hadn’t volunteered me. He’s so annoying sometimes.” Kevin chuckled softly as he thought about his dad volunteering him to do something. He couldn’t possibly imagine it.

Joe stopped in front of the school and looked at Kevin who then stopped as well. “What is it?” Kevin asked as he looked at Joe. Joe shrugged and smiled. “What?” Kevin questioned again as he poked Joe in the shoulder. “Tell me.”

A short laugh came from Joe. “Oh nothing…I was just thinking about something.” Kevin nodded and looked towards the gloomy skies. “Hey Kevin,” Kevin turned to look at Joe again.

“Yeah?”

“I was wondering…” Joe trailed off and looked down at the ground. Kevin smiled softly, realizing that Joe was really shy when it came to asking things. “Uhh…do you want to…I don’t know. Hang out today?”

Kevin laughed softly and nodded. “Is that really all you wanted to ask?” Joe nodded sheepishly. “Well calm down. I’m not a mean person so you don’t need to be so shy. Of course I’d love to hang out with you today.” Joe smiled warmly and boldly grabbed onto Kevin’s hand for the briefest of seconds before pulling away.

Kevin smiled as he reached over and took hold of Joe’s hand. “Thanks…” Joe said softly. “Thanks for hanging out with me. Not many people want to do that anymore, so it’s nice to not go straight home for once.” Kevin squeezed Joe’s hand gently, instantly feeling bad for the younger boy and then he let go.

“Come on,” he said softly. “Let’s get out of here. I know this place down the street that has the best pizza ever.” The two boys set off to enjoy their day. Unfortunately, neither of them knew that Taylor and Mitchell were spying on them because no matter how close the bond between Kevin and Taylor was the bond between siblings triumphed.

“Oh my god. Joe’s gay?” Taylor asked in a shocked voice. Mitchell merely smirked as he pulled out his phone. “What are you doing Mitchie?” Taylor asked as she looked back over to the two boys who were blissfully unaware of the trouble they just got themselves into.

“Oh nothing Tay Tay. I just remembered that I have to call Mason and ask him when we should meet him at the movies. He never told me the times.” Taylor shrugged as she picked up her backpack and walked on out to go home. Mitchell laughed to himself as he dialed his older brother’s phone number and waited for him to pick up. “Hey Mason,” Mitchell said with a wide smile on his face. “Can you do me a favor? Yeah, it’s about Joe. You remember him right?”

This was all going to be perfect for Mitchell’s revenge on his ex-best friend. Grinning, Mitchell gave his brother directions on his special “favor.”

Kevin and Joe stopped in front of a warm pizzeria and smiled. Nothing was a better comfort food than pizza after an annoying first day of school. The two boys slipped into the warm and cheery building with a soft sigh. It definitely beat standing outside in the chilled and rainy August day. Joe smiled as he maneuvered over to a corner seat and sat down, leaving Kevin to choose between the booth on the other side or the seat next to him. Kevin sat down in the booth and smiled.

“So this is a pretty cool place,” Joe said appreciatively as he enjoyed the warm cheesy place. Kevin laughed softly as Joe started sniffing the air. He grabbed a menu off of the table and flipped through it, deciding that he’d be boring and just get a hamburger and French fries.  Joe picked out his order as well and smiled. “So, I think I’m going to get a small pizza. How are the pizzas here?”

Kevin smiled brightly. “Oh they have the best pizzas ever. My best friend’s brother works here, so we are always here to hang with him.” Kevin smiled as he looked towards the counter. “Oh look, there he is.” Joe looked over and paled once again as he realized that it was Mason. Kevin instantly knew that something was wrong. “Oh shit, I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking when I was talking about him. Sorry…”

Joe shrugged off Kevin’s apology. “Don’t worry about it Kevin. It’s just a stupid little fight. That’s all.” Joe sighed as he sunk down into the seat. “I really wish I knew why he stopped talking to me though.” Kevin felt extremely sympathetic for Joe as he reached his hand across the table to take Joe’s hand. Joe smiled and took Kevin’s hand as his happiness returned. “So what do you do in your free time?”

Kevin shrugged as he looked at Joe. “I don’t really know. I guess I just do the normal stuff. Homework, hang out with my friends, and play tons of video games. I always play guitar hero with my little bro Frankie, but he always ends up beating me. He’s good for an eight year old. Oh, I also play guitar too.”

Joe smiled. “That’s so cool! I wish I could play the guitar. All I can do is play the piano and I’m not even that good at that.” Kevin laughed softly at Joe’s happy expression. “Oh, and I take a ton of photographs. I guess you could call me a photographer but I don’t think I deserve that title. Only the best can be considered photographers. I’m just mediocre.”

Kevin sighed. “Don’t sell yourself short Joe. I bet you’re a great photographer.” Joe flushed deeply and looked down at his hands. “Come on Joe, just admit it. You have talent.” Joe shrugged as he looked back up at Kevin. “So, what’s your favorite thing to photograph?”

Joe’s eyes lit up the second Kevin asked him that question. “Oh there are so many great things to photograph, but the best things to photograph are sunrises and sunsets.” Kevin smiled warmly as he listened to Joe talk about his favorite subject. “See, the light just hits the scenery just right and it makes everything so beautiful. It’s almost like sprinkling magic fairy powder onto everything. Oh, and the best sunsets to capture are the ones above rivers where the sun sparkles in the water and reflects itself in the liquid. Oh, it’s just so amazing to just snag a secret of beauty. That has to be the very best part of photography.”

Kevin’s smile filled his entire body now as the warmth spread through him. He could feel his heart beating but rather than it pounding like it had been before it was beating in time to the rhythm of the scenery that Joe had painted in his mind. It made him think about the way he had looked at Joe before and now it made him feel even more attracted to the boy. It was like his heart had gone into overdrive and all he could see was Joe.

Behind him the door to the pizzeria jingled but he ignored it. “Joe, I have something to say,” Kevin said softly as he looked at the boy. Joe perked up a little at the sound of Kevin’s voice. “I…I li-“

“Joe!” Kevin whirled around to stare at a guy who had just walked into the place. He had short black hair and it was kind of spiked up in a slightly dorky way. Kevin immediately bit his lip and pulled away from his hold on Joe’s hand, instantly feeling the chilled coldness from the lack of Joe’s hand in his. Joe instantly smiled as he stood up and reached for the boy who had appeared in the pizza shop.

“Hey there David!” he said brightly. “I missed you.” The boy named David wrapped his arm around Joe’s waist and squeezed him tightly before kissing him on the cheek. Joe’s smile brightened but Kevin instantly sulked. “Oh, Kevin, this is David. David, this is my new friend Kevin.”

David reached his hand out to Kevin with a bright smile but Kevin didn’t even bother returning it. “Hello Kevin, it’s nice to meet you.” Kevin gave him a halfhearted smile and shook his hand.

“Good to meet you too David,” Kevin said. He then stood up as well and looked at them. “Hey, I just realized that I promised my dad I’d be home soon so I could help him with the house. Frankie’s been sick, so yeah.” He lied quickly as possible and looked out the window. “Well, I have to go. Sorry guys.”

Joe noticed the quick change in Kevin’s behavior but he didn’t say anything about it. “Okay then Kevin,” David said as he squeezed Joe’s side. “We’ll see you at school tomorrow, no?” Kevin nodded before grabbing his sweatshirt and walking out of the pizza shop, resisting the urge to look back at the boy who had founded and broken his heart in the same day.
