But we have both been to Ancient Rome, and it hardly seemed polite to let him continue under some of his misapprehensions.

And it could always be a fairy tale. Once upon a time Rose the Gallant was riding through the forest when she saw a handsome prince with magnificent hair locked in a tower. So she rescued him and they lived happily ever after.
People are odd. And personally, I find being willing to stick around to help me clean gravatnisk slime out of my hair to be far more romantic than anything in those sort of books! And that was rather revolting, as I'm sure you'll recall!
