Indie died the day Oasis played knebworth, it was suffering pnuemonia during the britpop boom, Menswear were proof of that. The Fratellis are really just the outgassing of vapours from indie's long dead dessicated corpse.

Hence a neologism I find incredibly appropriate. Landfill indie. Indie music labelled as such selling by the truck load, but ultimately worthless and destined to be bulldozed into a landfill.
Indie started with students and guitars, but the inheritors of factory records legacy are the ravers who having briefly been flirted with by the music industry but have quickly fallen by the wayside with dance music dismissed as an unprofitable niche market; with only the most comercial drivel from the ghetto it has become deemed worthy of compiling and selling to spotty faced children.
By neccessity they have built their own independant music ecomony, perhaps a tad insular but the great rock rave revolution should at least prevent total stagnation.
