I worked gate by myself for the first time yesterday and when I counted out, I found that I had handled over three thousand dollars' worth of transactions. It was ridiculously trippy. I came up a dollar short, but apparently that's really good for one's first day. (The more experienced person ahead of me in the count-out was over by two dollars. If it's three dollars over or under or more, we get written up.) I can't help but think that this method of tracking things means that as long as one made roughly equal numbers of each kind of mistake throughout the day, they'd never be caught - shortchange customers, pocket it.
I also got a two-dollar bill. I was permitted to purchase it out of my till, so now I have a two-dollar bill. Nifty.
It's amazing how many people will pay with hundreds for a $24 ticket purchase.
