Customized VonZipper goggles for YRB Magazine

Jan 08, 2012 17:53

YRB Magazine recently commissioned me to customize a pair of VonZipper Misslepop snow goggles for their Nov/Dec issue (on newsstands now!), and hilarity ensues.

Alternate covers for YRB Magazine #206
I had a few ideas including a femme (typical me) "Rose-Colored Glasses" theme, but they promptly needed to be scrapped when I finally got the googles in the mail and saw that they looked like this.

And I couldn't swap out the lens for another color. And I had only a little over a week to finish it.

So I rolled with it and went with a fiery concept instead to match the amber lens. And of course, because snow and fire are opposites. (Or more dorkily, Ice and Fire...)

This is what I came up with.

Basically snow goggles + crapload of paint + LED Christmas garland + ribbons = this awesome monstrosity.

YRB also featured my finished goggles and a short interview both in their magazine and website...

Unfortunately, the photographer was unable to turn the lights on by the time they received them... (and I was unaware that the goggles were to be worn) But hopefully the concept still shows through.

Hope you enjoyed my first attempt at 3D art since 2003. Fun times!
