Nico Nico Guide
This is a guide on how to sign-up and use Nico Nico Douga (free account).

Signing up with Nico Nico Douga
Step 01: Go to the Nico Nico website
Step 02: Towards the top of the page, you'll see a big, yellow button. Click it.
Step 03: You will be taken to another page with two buttons on the very right. The gold one is if you want to sign up to a premium account (costs 550yen a month), and white button is for a free account. (※You can switch to a premium account after making a free account)
Step 04: You'll be taken to another page. Enter your e-mail address in the box and click on the black button underneath the box
Step 05: Enter your details. All fields must be filled in (※Refer to the image) and click the first (bigger) black button at the bottom of the screen. If you do not come to a new page, it means that you have made a mistake somewhere in entering your details.
For the favourite question part, the questions are as follows (in order from top to bottom)
- Favourite food
- Most hated food
- Name of the school you graduated from.
- Mother's maiden name
- Favourite movie
- Your pet's name
- Favourite celebrity
Step 06: Verify your details and then enter what you see in the box. Click the black button to continue. By clicking the black button, you agree to Nico Nico's terms of service. I haven't translated this, but my guess is that it would be similar to that of Youtube's terms of service
Step 07: Nico Nico will then send you a verification e-mail to the e-mail address that you signed up with. Click the link they give you in the e-mail. If you are successful, you will arrive at the following page:
When you click the link at the bottom, you will return to the Nico Nico homepage signed-in.
Logging in/out of Nico Nico.
If your browser won't allow you to stay signed-in, or if you are using a public computer and don't know what to click to log-in, refer to the following image. The buttons outlined in red are what you can click to log-in.
You will see this box
If you want to log-out, go to the drop-down menu on the top right hand corner of the screen and choose the last option.
Watching A9 Channel
※ You need to be logged in to watch.
Step 01: Go to the show's page, and you will see the following:
When the doors for the show opens (※You can see how much time is left until the doors open towards the right hand side of the box), click the the door which corresponds to your membership type. The gold door is for premium members, and the white door is for normal members.
Timeshifting
What is timeshifting?
Timeshifting is kind of like recording a live broadcast so that you can watch it later.
Are there limits to timeshifting?
Yes:
- If you are a mobile user, you can only timeshift one live broadcast.
- If you are a normal user, you can only timeshift ten live broadcasts.
- If you are a premium member, you can only timeshift thirty live broadcasts.
- You have seven days to watch the timeshifted show before it becomes unavailable.
When will a timeshifted episode become available?
Nico Nico says that these shows will be available 30 minutes after the live broadcast. Remember that you only have seven days to watch the show!!
How do I timeshift?
Go to the webpage of the live broadcast you would like to timeshift. You will see the following (※All shows have the same set-up. Only the image will be different)
Click on the yellow button to the right. The following pop-up box will come up:
If you are successful, you will see this pop-up box:
The timeshift button will also be greyed out if successful
Timeshift List
You can check the shows you've timeshifted on your 'My Page' page. If you are on the Nico Nico homepage, click on the 'My Page' link at the top
If you're on any other page, clicking your username on the top menu will take you to 'My Page'
At the very bottom of your 'My Page' on the left, you will see a part related to Live Broadcasts. Click the link to see what shows you've timeshifted.
You'll then be taken to a page that has the list. Click the image for details.
