Young Frankenstein is going well, I got bumped up to the Hermit role because Mike is not able to do the show. There is a lot of that happening with the ensemble of this show. There is only nine people in the ensemble now because of drops, and we even had one addition too. I haven't talked to chanel since she dropped, (for the best) even though she is at wct for kc's rehearsals the same time Young Frankenstein is rehearsing. The way Andrew scheduled rehearsals ensemble scenes and more lead focused scenes are grouped in four different clusters, but I'm in scenes that ended up in each of the clusters. So, I've been there every night and mostly just filling in for people not at rehearsal. It's a bit draining, but I feel like I'm getting a positive rapport with Andrew. Ian Welsh who is cast as Dr. Frankenstein has been awful about making it to rehearsals. He was in the previous wct musical, Descendants so missed the first two weeks of rehearsal as that was finishing up and now the Center Stage show is this week, so he hasn't been there this week either. He is really over committed and probably shouldn't have been cast as a lead. As the lead there is an expectation of availability to be there at rehearsals. This is not only for you to learn your role, but to understand how your role fits into the show in regards to other characters. Blocking, choreography, and interactions with other characters are huge parts in making a show complete. You don't get that if you aren't at rehearsals. Also, it's not just memorizing lines and notes, a lot is getting direction on delivery based on the directors vision for the show. And to be honest, Ian isn't a natural with acting, but also doesn't take direction easily. He's a bit weird and can be rigid in how he delivers lines. He's also a bit of a loose cannon with ad libs and going against directors' notes, tends to get an attitude if he gets called out on something. He has a pretty severe stutter, and in my opinion gets special treatment for it. People will say he's so good, but it's out of pity. He's just ok, he's a male so there is always a role for him. He's no hero. Maybe that's shitty of me to say, I'm no great actor either but whatever it's true about male roles vs female roles. There is always more need for guys than ladies and it sucks how mediocre men get to be applauded while there are more talented ladies getting put in the back. I should get down from this soap box, I have lines to memorize and a song (thats really low) to sing.
