I had an idea the other idea, inspired by all the work we are doing on terminology in my organisation.

I decided to start a series of entries which will contain interesting and useful definitions I meet in the course of my life and studies. Mostly they will be from my studies of the spiritual teachings of Djwhal Khul and other Masters, but I'm hoping to include also some funny definitions, such as the definition of net a friend gave me many years ago, in Scotland: a lot of holes held together by string.

Some of these definitions can be rather long, so I'm putting them under the cut.

The first one today is a definition of... definition:

Definition is simply the expression of the immediate understanding of a human mind. But a definition may later be seen to be imperfect and even false, from the angle of a wider knowledge and a more inclusive grasp of wholes, (just as is the case with a so-called fact). Hence all definition, and eventually all facts, will be known to be temporary; all exegesis is but passing in its usefulness. The basic truths of today may be seen later as simply aspects of still greater truths, and when the greater truth is grasped, the significance and the interpretation of its formerly important part is seen to be widely different to what was supposed.
