Whatever it was that a movie star needs to be charming and sexy and likable - Joel McCrea had it. He was also so AMERICAN - in a way that no one else really matches then or since. Joel McCrea is an actor who is often overlooked, but shouldn't be. Incredibly handsome, he only became sexier as he grew into his 30's and 40's. He was at his best in movies like Foreign Correspondent, The Palm Beach Story and The More the Merrier and of course, Sullivan's Travels. I often wish he hadn't gone strictly to westerns as I think the movies lost a great romantic leading man. If you haven't checked out his films, do yourself a favor and watch! It's fun to watch his early films and see the progress he made as an actor through his lengthy career, ending with the brilliant Ride the High Country.
