Under Appreciated Movie Actors: Joel McCrea

Whatever it was that a movie star needs to be charming and sexy and likable - Joel McCrea had it. He was also so AMERICAN - in a way that no one else really matches then or since. First, he's sarcastic, but friendly. Self-deprecating, but self-assured. Tough, but not hardened. And he's really hot - the guy could handle a love scene. Watch the scene in The More the Merrier where he and Jean Arthur talk about her fiance while he keeps kissing her. Or the scene in The Palm Beach Story where Claudette Colbert can't unfasten her dress (actually this happens twice in that movie and both times are really, really sexy). Why isn't he more famous? Why isn't he more remembered? In his later years he did almost exclusively Westerns, and maybe this cause people to forget what a charming, funny, and sexy romantic lead he was. After Cary Grant, he's my favorite leading man of the 30's and 40's.

My favorite Joel McCrea films:

The More the Merrier
The Palm Beach Story
Sullivan's Travels
