I've never really been into sailing but if you lived in New Zealand over the past two weeks you needed to have been completely and utterly incommunicado not to have heard about it or even seen the two huge catamarans gliding across the water like planes. Oracle, Team USA won, but the end result seems to have been more a matter of who had the most money (Oracle) and willingness to throw everything at it in their desire to win. It also begs the question, how can a yachting crew be called Team USA when of its 7 nationalities not one of them was American? At least the Kiwis (and this Brit because I got dragged in screaming and kicking) cheering for Team New Zealand knew that that they were cheering for their own and of the two non Kiwis in the crew (Aussies) one has dual citizenship and the other has strong links with NZ. I guess this sport has become more like the Grand Prix of corporate yacht racing, but blow me those catamarans are amazing!
