Septoplasty Update I Sent in an Email

It's just another septoplasty post-op update, but feel free to read anyway. :)

Hey all,

Hope you don't mind me sending out a mass e-mail.  I just wanted to let you all know (some of you may not have known) that I had a septoplasty March 15th.  Everything went well.  My mom had flown out here a few days beforehand to stay with me for 2 weeks and help me with my post-op care.  Her and Sam came with me that morning.

Today is the first day I've been able to do more than my share of activities of daily living.  I've been holed up in my place recovering, taking steroids for inflammation, prophylactics, and painkillers.  General anesthesia really does a number on you!  I had never been able to breathe out of my left nostril, and my septoplasty was to repair that, so I can breathe like a normal human being.  I haven't been able to breathe through my nose at all since the surgery.  I have splints in both nostrils keeping my septum straight.  So eating/talking/breathing at the same time has been a chore and a half.  As far as sleep goes, I've adjusted to that, and the past 2 - 3 nights I've slept really well.

Today, I decided I was sick of recovering in my apartment while everyone else was out having a life, so I walked down the block with mom to a restaurant to have lunch.  I managed to eat about half of it, but my sense of taste hasn't really gotten back to me yet, so I was eating just to eat my lunch. Still, glad I made it outside.  I got my mail (I had a ton), and then came the chore of climbing back up to my 3rd floor apartment.

I had to stop at the first landing because I was out of breath.  I made it back up to my place, and I was done for the day.

But I've been doing chores around the house, no issues showering, etc.  I'm just dying to blow my nose!

I see my doctor Monday morning to hopefully get my splints out.  I can't wait.

So thanks for reading everyone!  Talk to (or see you) all soon :)

Love,

Sue
