Rambling thoughts on Dragon Age worldbuilding
I've been thinking that maybe all the current races are elves who've been cut off from the Fade to various extents and in different ways.
*spoilers*
The way Solas tells it, the ancient elves were different to modern ones, and he and the guardians at the temple of Mythal even look different. And something somewhere gave me the impression that the Veil itself is a modern thing, which means everywhere in Thedas used to be bathed in magic. There's also references to (modern) elven blood being "ancient", implying they were the first race.
So my possibly entirely wrong idea is that originally, there was just the Ancient Elves living in a world awash with magic. Then several things happened in an unknown order:
It's worth noting that dwarves appeared first, and that humans (and the mysterious semi sentient Fex and some other horned beings??) came from Par Vollen to the North, while the Kossith are from further North still.
Some time after all those things happened the elves started losing their immortality and the Old Gods made contact with humans, then the humans met up with elves who taught them how to access the fade(??) and then history went on it's way..
And it's possible humans, dwarves, Fex and kossith appeared naturally (however that works in a world that probably doesn't have evolution as such) but I have to wonder if they were made. Did the Old Gods make humans to rival the elven Gods and their elves, as Morgoth made orcs in Middle Earth? Especially since elf/human babies are entirely human. Are dwarves elves who were changed and made into something almost opposite to typical elves? Or, like Tolkein elves, created separately but maybe inspired by elves? MAYBE BY SENTIENT LYRIUM?? I feel like the Primeval Thaig is important somehow...
