This year has been hell. There's no other way of putting it really. It's been non-stop work, work, work, work. Every time I thought I was getting on top of one thing, another three would come along.
The gym finally moved into a new building at the start of May. I've been playing catch up since then, working overtime just about every day just to keep things running. So I was overjoyed when a parent today accused me of not making heaps of extra work for myself because I was 'too lazy to do some work'.
I am going to resign just as soon as I can find another job. I want a life of my own - time to sleep, eat, read, dance, sing, relax and do whatever I want, rather than trying to look after other people all the time. The uni have talked about possibly increasing my hours there, which would allow me to quit the gym, but I have to wait for the idea to percolate through the various bureaucratic levels in the uni. Fingers and toes crossed it all happens before I have another break down...
Stress aside, there have been a few good days. I went to Sydney for a couple of days recently to catch up with a uni friend. We ended up seeing lots of wildlife and generally pottering around, which was nice. He came down to Melbourne the following week, so I had a few days off work and we took in all the touristy things we could get to - penguins, koalas, Hanging Rock, chocolate factory, moonlit native animal sanctuary and a few other things besides. It was a lovely few days, ruined only by returning to work the next day!
I have also been working on an exhibition for the International Year of Astronomy which opened at the local science centre a few weeks ago - it was nice to have something to show for what I've been up to this year! Hopefully it will help convince the head of department to increase my hours!
I'm sorry not to be able to update more - to add to all the joys of work, our home internet has been massively unreliable for weeks at a time and my uni computer hard drive died (still waiting to find out if I can get any of my files back).
Right, time to chill out before the next crazy thing comes along...
